kiminmexico
Just had a wonderful lunch at a new restaurant-Arelio's, west side of Ajijic just past the 2nd Pemex on the lake side. Great menu, great service & surroundings. Very reasonable prices. Pasta, steak, pizza & seafood. My wife & I had 5 glasses of wine(between us), 1 pizza, chicken provenciale & 1 carrot cake. Total price-$450 pesos. All good. We'll go back.

cedros
The 2nd Pemex. Which is just before Piedra Barrenada. Much closer to San Juan Cosala than Rancho Del Oro..
adafromhavana
Going west towards San Juan Cosala after you go under the large sign that says JOCOTOPEC, then you pass the Pemex on the right. Afterwards you will see a large white sign with a large bull on the left hand side off the road that says ARILEO. The Bing map and Google maps will lead you astray and take you all the way into SJC. Just use La buena vida's directions. We ate a late comida here today. They start you off with a wonderfully tasty and warm mini-loaf of break served with soft garlic and herb butter. The flank steak was one of the best that we've had at lakeside. Excellent flavor and very, very tender. The pizza (the Italian with olives instead of dried tomatoes) was very good, better than most at lakeside. The crust was crispy, especially around the edges. To be honest, it still isn't up to what many of us are used to from NOB, but it was certainly better than most and tasty. My quest for the perfect crust continues, but we will definitely go back to Arielo's for more of their steak!! We also had a Caesar salad and the sauteed spinach and asparagus entree. Both were excellent. The service was outstanding and the facilities and decor were top notch. The restrooms are notably nice! They have a large bar with an expansive drink menu. Lots to like here. thevalerieleigh
We, too, had lunch there today (Monday) about 3:15 pm. We were greeted by a couple of friendly waiters and chose a seat inside under a fan. It was cool and pleasant and especially clean. We also noticed how clean the bathrooms were too. Started out with the Grilled Provolone Cheese with Roasted Peppers and Tomatoes. Lovely presentation and very flavorful. Also had a Caesar Salad that was tasty. My only criticism would be the dressing didn't seem "quite" like Caesar to me but was good all the same. We each chose the Vacio (one Rare and one Medium Rare) and both were tender, flavorful and cooked perfectly. I went with the medley of french fries made with regular potatoes and sweet potatoes while my husband chose the Cambray potatoes. They, too, were all tasty. Once again the presentation was really lovely. We were told their Cappuccino/Espresso machine would be working soon as they're waiting on a water line for it. We'll be back and I encourage those of you who haven't given it a try to do so. Forgot to mention, they do allow pets as well. I took photos of the food items but can't figure out how to upload them. El Cartero
If they achieve consistency in the food and the wine poor they should have success. Given how far west they are their prices are a tad high. I found the heavy truck traffic annoying and a little smelly. Prices are down a bit from when they first opened but their wine poor is often light.
Wookie
We ate lunch here today and were very pleased. It is west 1.7 miles from the Los Sabinos condo sign and only a few yards from the second Pemex. Between us we had the ribs that came with some veggies and a mix of regular and sweet potato fries; seafood bisque, the asparagus/spinach appetizer ... it was all good. We will go back soon and try other things. The service was the best we have experienced here at Lakeside and the waiters we talked with (3) all spoke English. The place is very comfortable and clean and there is a full bar. There is ample parking with parking in the rear as well and if you sit inside I don't think you would be bothered by fumes from cars or trucks ... if you are very sensitive to this you can go all the way through the main dining room and out to the outdoor area in the back and then you would not be bothered at all. The menu has something for everyone and everything we saw coming out of the kitchen was presented attractively. We drive all the time from the west side of Ajijic to the east ... even as far as Chapala to eat without giving it a second thought so it is hard to think that there are not going to be those that won't do the opposite as soon as they try it because this is good food at a reasonable price....not cheap .... reasonable. ComputerGuy
I was surprised that the first weekend of the school holidays, this place wasn't filled with Tapatios. We had a late lunch on Saturday, and I was impressed every step of the way. The warm bolillo, sliced almost all the way through (the way I was taught) was served with an herbed garlic butter with a sprig of rosemary on top, in a French White little pot. Everything throughout the meal was presented and plated in a lovely manner. Saturday the soup special was a seafood soup, that was a real eye-opener. Absolutely delicious and only 40p. I'd stop by there anytime just to get that To Go. My vacio was the best I've had lakeside: tasty, tender, juicy, yum. What a treat. The sweet potato fries also great, although next time I will get them mixed, because camote is pretty heavy all by itself. Friend's rosemary chicken was average, the sauce being a little bland, but cooked properly. Service, as pointed out, was perfect. Food was served quickly, with attentive staff and perhaps six or seven other tables of customers. Prices decent for that kind of meal ($130 for the vacio), and I will go back in a heartbeat. LakeViews
My wife and I tried the restaurant yesterday. It is quite nice and we will return. We had a great Caesar salad, good burger and decent rib dish. They accommodated our small dog on the patio and brought her water. Service and presentation both top notch. A welcome addition to the west side. Give it a try!
