Mostlylost
If you have never been there it is worth a day trip on a weekend. It takes 1 hour and 15 minutes from the Walmart intersection in Ajijic. The highway is 90% in good condition. The main square is very different featuring a monument to Pope Pius IX. Next to the sun dial there is a tourist center that will gladly give you map with points of interest (English spoken). 2 blocks from the plaza is the entrance to the malecon. The malecon is by far the nicest and biggest anywhere lakeside. There is plenty of parking. The many restaurants & bars are open on weekends and get crowded after 2pm. Stop any one and enjoy a cantarita or michelada. (we enjoyed ours in the restaurant Malebar) There is over a half of a kilometer of malecon to stroll. Extremely clean and well maintained with gardens and areas to sit on the grass or have a picnic. When you are ready to return, just a couple of kilometers towards Ocotlan there are a few restaurants lakeside. We have enjoyed many times the restaurant Riberas de Chapala. Huge inside, clean restrooms, attentive service, and good food priced very reasonably. restaurant Riberas de Chapala SIgn is very faded
cedros
There is also the house of the Morena museum which has some interesting paintings. The monument to Pope Pius IX is rather odd. I missed the malcon. There are some dandy lakeside restaurants near Ocotlan and you cross over what used to b the outlet of the lake near Cuitzeo which is fairly close to the lakes main inlet -the Lerma river. there are also a few old haciendas in the area.
