He however has Mexican permanente status and he has the residente permanente 'green card' in his wallet. Can he travel to Mexico, direct by air, from Canada using only this card? It would seem this card is the same as an American 'green card' or proof of Canadian landed immigrant status... It would seem the card certifies residente permanente status and would be acceptable in Mexico,, but would the Canadian (or Americans) let you fly with it sans the passport for exit purposes? Surely you are not dependent on your national passport as the sole 'permission' to travel FROM your home country. Rather the concern would be your destination... would residente permanente status/card not be enough for Mexico, something they cane easily check nowadays? I have seen nowhere in the law where it says it is unlawful to depart Canada without first producing only certain government issued ID... ie ...passport or Nexus card. The passport requirement is to enter the next country. The airline is responsible to verify you have the ability to enter the destination country, otherwise they will have to take you back when you are refused entry. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Ferret Posted June 28, 2022 Report Share Posted June 28, 2022 As MostlyLost previously stated... Have the person in Mexico send the passport back to the rightful owner in Canada. I would recommend FEDEX so you can easily track it ALL THE WAY. Should take about three days max and worth every penny.
