I use a few online sites, one for quick proper definitions, another for slang and the last in case I need to verify conjugations.

http://www.wordreference.com for word translations

http://www.elpais.es/traductor/index.html for translating sentences or paragraphs

http://www.jergasdehablahispana.org/ for slang

http://www.elemadrid.com/spanish_verbs.htm for verb conjugation

The slang site is great as at times I hear a word and 95% of the time it isn't in the dictionary.

Great list, Intercasa -- thank you.

For really quick translations, you can also set up Google's personalized home page to include their translator; that way, you don't have to change pages/sites. Instructions, for anyone curious, are here --> http://www.wikihow.com/Set-Up-a-Google-Per...alized-Homepage. But my knowledge of Spanish is thin indeed, so I can't comment on the quality of Google's translations, and it certainly wouldn't offer the depth and detail of the sites Intercasa lists.

They're all excellent websites.

A caveat, however: three of the four are websites from Spain, offering translations and conjugations of Spanish as it is spoken in that country. Mexico's Spanish, including many words in daily use, its verb conjugations and its slang, is frequently different.

The slang site list Mexican slang and the translation site is more accurate. My friend from Colombia turned me onto it. I'd tease her and write to her in English and she pasted back very good translations. The conjugation site also has it the best and lists more than the vosotros. Alta vista and google translation sites don't always give as good results. One only need translate "How are you" to see the differences, among other things.
