moonhill
Has anyone used any local doctors here for spinal cortisone injections? My husband had had all the surgeries possible, has a titanium cage 360 degrees around his spine, and with his heart problems another surgery is no longer an option. Would appreciate referrals and experiences, if any.
elevator
I've had several in my shoulders by Dr. Gonzales Ross Sr. at San Antonio Hospital. He's a spine surgeon.

bmh
Junior is the spine specialist and I had spinal injections done at the San ANtonio hospital. The pain went away for 6 weeks and came back.. Apparently it could go away for up to 3 months but that was not my case.
happyjillin
Yes to Ross. Gonzales sr. did me about 2 years ago when he was still doing them in his office and it lasted 1 1/2 yrs. He did an epidermal on me [3 collapsed discs] about 6 years ago before that. Highly recommend them both! But yes Ross has taken over the spine work. My latest collapsed disc[L4-5] self corrected so I am back to just my, what I call, normal pain and if it regresses Ross said he would do an epidermal. my spine from the skull down looks like a train wreck after 51 years of playing hockey and a nasty car wreck in '66. elevator
Dr. Ross Sr. was a back surgeon, but is now working on knees, shoulders and hips primarily, but he will do cortisone wherever you need it.
Ferret
Besides the cortisone shots, you may want to have your Magnesium levels checked. Magnesium is very involved in pain reduction and most people are deficient. Google for more. Magnesium Usage For Muscle & Joint Pain Reduction | PWC (thepwc.ca) This article translates to use Magnesium Glycinate if you don't want the laxative effect. If you go to a lab and ask for a Magnesium test, they will do a SERUM test which is not always indicative of a deficiency. You want a RED BLOOD CELL Magnesium test and this link explains why (scroll down to explaination) ... Magnesium RBC - Magnesium Deficiency Test | Walk-In Lab (walkinlab.com) As always, confirm this information with your Doctor. In the 80's, I suffered for three years with both my shoulders frozen. I had multiple shots of cortisone in both shoulders during that time. In desperation, I went to a Naturopath in Barrie, Ontario. I was magnesium deficient. Three months after taking the supplements, I was pain free.
RickS
I just love those 'my pain problems were solved'!!!
Ferret
The shoulder pain problem was resolved. They still don't work properly. I'm having a lot of back problems right now but I'm not supplementing at the moment. Think I'll start up again ;). That was my story and it was a suggestion to get your Magnesium levels checked. That's all.

What is your purpose? Senior goes by Jorge Gonzales and son goes by Alvaro Ross SO THAT THERE IS NO CONFUSION since they both treat us at SAT. I have been treated by both.

You for some reason wish to confuse people reading this OP who may wish to make an appointment with one of them. Why? To make an appointment with senor it's Gonzales and junior it's Ross. bmh
I said I was treated by Dr Gonzales Ross who is the one that specializes in the spine .. How complicated is that. I saw both and the father referred me to his son so it is o problem is you go to one rather than the other. The father takes you right to the son and vice versa..
econ man
If you want to make an appointment specify Gonzales "the father" or "the son" and they will know who you are talking about.

bmh
no big deal. if you go to the wrong one the son or father walks you to the other one.. If you ask for the spine specialist they give you an appointment for the correct one....

Both still work out of Guad and one or the other may be in surgery there, or surgery here. If you book with the wrong one, the other one may already have an appt. for that same time. Why waste your time, or their time??
bmh
Better go to DR Jose Manuel Gonzalez from Quality care and that way there is not confusion. He is a neurologist also very good.
