Zeb
I have someone coming from Canada and he is asking for suggestions for an economical Bed and Breakfast place. I would appreciate any recommendations.
sm1mex
There are some near LCS same side and across from LCS. Have to Google the places.
Floradude
Tres Leones but you need a car to get up the hill.
Ferret
Tres Leones is fabulous but I wouldn't call it economical. It's luxury. 3
Bisbee Gal
@Zeb Define economical. And desired location. fyi, depending on length of stay, sometimes an Airbnb can be cheaper.
Go Solar
Villa Eucaliptos Bed and Breakfast :: Ajijic, México
sm1mex
The ones near LCS are within walking distance of the plaza and restaurants.
RickS
As Bisbee Gal has suggested, "economical" should be defined. Otherwise while Tres Leones is outa this world and Villa Eucaliptos is very nice, I would not think that they would fall into the economical zone unless we are talking about Warren Buffet or Bill Gates. sm1mex has suggested 'around the LCS'... specifically Casa Blanca ($60) and probably Casa de Como (VRBO between $45-$50 if available) right there, or a tiny bit farther afield one of my favorites for people, Hotel La Nueva Posada Ajijic at $65. All before VAT.

sm1mex
We stayed at Casa Blanca when we first came down 14 years ago. Different owners now but very nice and walking convenient to the plaza and restaurants. Also near LCS for all kinds of info and meeting friends. Yes and you get what you pay for. Except for the hill it is one of the best places to stay. Typical worrying about "economical", sheesh.
gringal
Not everyone is able to indulge in "luxury" on any level, so what's your point in stating that "you get what you pay for"??? We all know that.🙃 1

Otherwise, all B&B's would be identical.
Ferret
LOL! Let's just state that you get a lot more for your money in Mexico. It would have been better if the person making the enquiry had stated a maximum price willing to pay and go from there. There's a ton more qualifiers to find the perfect place so more detail would have been preferred. Tres Leones was always our recommendation and it was even better when Remy's was located there. There are many other choices based on needs and wants.

Bisbee Gal
Here is an Airbnb search using 40 USD as max. Contact the most promising and they will likely let you know the local address and perhaps see the room since you are a local. https://www.airbnb.com/s/Ajijic--Mexico/homes?adults=1&place_id=ChIJtSinkExBL4QRY52kBXEK1rg&refinement_paths[]=%2Fhomes&tab_id=home_tab&query=Ajijic%2C Mexico&flexible_trip_dates[]=december&flexible_trip_dates[]=november&flexible_trip_lengths[]=weekend_trip&date_picker_type=calendar&price_max=40&search_type=filter_change

mudgirl
3 hours ago, Zeb said: Thanks. Will check it out. FYI, not sure if you are familiar with Airbnbs, but you will need to send the host an Inquiry to ask questions, which you do by clicking on the "Contact Host" button under the listing description. And third party bookings are against Airbnb terms of service, so your friends would have to open an Airbnb account if they don't already have one, and book it themselves. Bisbee Gal
My best advice for Airbnb is to READ every single review, make sure there are some recent ones. Most hosts are happy to answer q's (using the contact host button as described above). Have rented all over MX and the rest of the world with very few disappointments out of at least one hundred rentals. Being local you may be able to check for hazards such as proximity to bars, eventos, traffic noise, etc.
mudgirl
Yes, important to read reviews, but you also have to understand which ones to dismiss. These are known as outlier reviews. They usually result from an objectionable guest being called out on their behavior (threw a party and trashed the place, snuck more people or a pet in, etc.) They know they are going to get a bad review from the host, so they submit a review full of lies. If you read through a host's reviews, the vast majority of which say the host was great, and the place was lovely, and then find a review claiming the place was filthy, the host was rude, and other complaints which don't jive, it is one of those retaliation reviews. Also really important to thoroughly read through all the listing info the host has provided, which many guests don't bother to do- they look at the photos and price, skim the info, book, then arrive expecting things the host does not provide, or thinking they booked a whole casita, when it's just a private room in the host's home. Hosts don't generally allow pre-viewings, it can be a security risk, or a way for guests to try to hound the host to make a private deal, but if you explain the situation, they might be open to it.
