cookj5
In a couple of weeks, we plan to drive up from Ajijic to McAllen TX, crossing the border at Reynosa. This is not a crossing we have done before and we'd like UP TO DATE information regarding: 1)The best place to cross (if there is more than one)? 2) Best time of day for crossing? 3) How long does it usually take to get across from Mexico? 4) Recommended hotel in McAllen for a short stay? Thanks in advance for any helpful information.
RickS
You did not say what route you were taking from Ajijic to McAllen. Assuming you are going 'through' Ciudad Victoria the crossing to take is the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge. If you are coming over from Monterrey on 40 to the Reynosa area you could either take the Puente Internacional Anzalduas Bridge OR you could skirt Reynosa on the Libramiento Reynosa Sur II and connect to the above mentioned Pharr-Reynosa bridge. If you are/have not considered driving up through Ciudad Victoria you may want to 'talk' with Maincoons on this board. It is a bit shorter, has fewer tolls and good roads. Yo1
Check to see if the Pharr bridge is open to auto traffic now. It wasn't two years ago.

Between the Anzalduas Bridge or the Pharr-Reynosa Bridge, which is the easiest to deal with (and why)? We are coming through Monterrey to Reynosa on Hwy 40. Out1
I prefer the Anzalduas Bridge because you miss most of Reynosa; crossed into the US 4 weeks ago. With the border reopening soon it is hard to say what bridge will have the shortest wait at US customs. Start checking the border wait time info at https://bwt.cbp.gov/
Nick_oaxaca
I recommend the Best Western Mcallen Medical Center. Good price, walking distance to walmart, swimming pool. Also, last time i tried to cross at Pharr, on a sunday, they were closed for few hours around lunchtime. Had to backtrack to the other crossing. That was in may.
