pappysmarket
One of the Country Music at Lakeside true legends and the nicest person you could ever know. Along with Jerry Mayfield, Ron Baker, Jay Shuffle and many others he cranked out the country favorites for several years at Lakeside. And long before that...going back to the Fifties he was an accomplished song writer. Garth Brooks sure appreciated Friends in Low Places which he co-wrote. "Mr. Blue" was also one and he shared with us that the inspiration for that was the old Alka Seltzer commercial that featured a man who didn't feel well named Mr. Blue. I have a demo copy of one of his last ones called "Boys R Us". He was determined to record it himself but his voice was gone. Garth asked him for permission to record it but Dewayne said no. Rest in Peace my friend you provided many great hours of entertainment. https://www.savingcountrymusic.com/friends-in-low-places-songwriter-dewayne-blackwell-dies/?fbclid=IwAR1_A-hYqwMAWIkDs084j6Zz-iJbQfp-7rOH1-QM7ONAG6psmrKph8ayIMo

John Shrall
Tuesday nights at La Bodega in late 2004 was the place to be. Dewayne and his crew of Ron Baker on the guitar (one of the best), Alan in his fatigues on the drums, Rick Ungar taking time off from his day jobs on the harmonica and Carol Bedford who regularly joined in. There were probably others that dropped by during his time at La Bodega but we're talking a long time ago and memories fade. Dewayne really couldn't sing very well but he was the central character/entertainer of a group that kept lots people coming back every week. The chemistry was magical and somehow we did line dances on the small space on the upper level.
RVGRINGO
I do remember....even before that time. It even surprises me, sometimes.

He certainly made Ajijic a fun place to be starting with my Club Hidalgo. Very talented man. May he RIP.
