US to ease land border entry requirements

Recommended Posts

The new land border travel restrictions will be broken into two phases, both of which introduce vaccine mandates:

Phase 1: The first phase will go into effect in "early November" and allows fully vaccinated travelers to enter the U.S. for nonessential reasons. Unvaccinated travelers can only travel to the U.S. for essential purposes in this phase.

Phase 2: The second phase will begin in "early January" and will only allow travelers to cross the land border for both essential and nonessential reasons if they have been fully vaccinated. There will be no testing requirements in either phase.

So the CBP agents at land border crossings are now going to have to ask for proof of vaccination and verify that proof is not fake?

It's probably not in their job description, would add lots of wait times at the border and possibly result in some resentment from those agents as their job is to verify citizenship or documents from non-citizens allowing them to enter the country. I envision slowdowns as a silent protest if this is implemented.

At least Mexicans and Canadians can cross by land into the USA again. Looking a a vax certificate should tale all of 30 seconds. Should be able to recognize a US, Canadian, or Mexican certificate in the first few minutes of the first day.

Means millions of dollars in economy for the border cities on both sides.

Silent protest?    Are you kidding?  Border agents get paid by the month, not by the number of vehicles they inspect. Makes absolutely no difference to them to look at a visa, or in the trunk.

Obviously, they do not get paid by the car, if you have ever been in a line crossing where the line next to you passes 10 cars and you have not moved yet. I think they will just ask if you are fully vaccinated or not, and that is all for that. Everyone will pass.

Sadly, It's easier for illegals to cross.

Oh really? How? Trudging through the desert, dying of thirst? Swimming the Rio Grande? Being crammed in a suffocating closed up truck?

How exactly is that easier than driving your air conditioned RV and showing your vax certificate?
