MtnMama
I went to Autocheck and Felipe said he doesn't work on standard transmissions if they need extensive work and doesn't know who does. We have a very old VW Pointer and husband has problems with shifting and with the clutch. Any idea of who might be able to patch this poor old thing back together? (next car will be an automatic)
RVGRINGO
I would assume that the nearest VW dealership's service department could answer that question.
RickS
Try calling Ron Young in Chapala.... across the highway from Sorianas on the lateral. 765-6387. He knows everything there is to know about VW Bugs and they are all (99.999%) standard transmissions. 1
CHILLIN
Across the highway from the Young brothers shop is another shop, that put my 1991 4x4 truck with a manual five speed and transfer case back together. It is on the lateral near Soriana, there is a big sign saying Mofleres y Radiators, THAT IS NOT the shop. It is next door on the Soriana side. The owner is Luis, who has fluent English, 376 765 3618, the master mechanic is Pepe, 331 142 9622 cel. Standard transmissions are considered to be much more repairable than automatic. Usually if an automatic has a transmission problem, you give that vehicle a good bye kiss. If you reveal that you are both handicapped, he will send someone out to pick up the car and drive it back when it is finished. His prices are very good. He mostly works for the working class people in that Colonia, as well as a good reputation for exotic import cars. He goes to scrapyards in Guadalajara once a week and has a memory for every part or body panel. You save a lot of money this way instead of going to dealerships. Of course he tells you if they are used, and most scrapyards give one year warrantee. There is another mechanic in Ixtahualican who can fix or fabricate anything. 1
