Hip Replacement Cruz Verde?

Recommended Posts

Went into Guadalajara to see the pain specialist, Dra. Rocio Valenciana, http://centrodeldolorguadalajara.com/

Very smart, very helpful, does not speak English.

She says I have to have a hip replacement as soon as possible or the bone might deteriorate. My go to hospital, Occidente, is still closed for orthopedic surgeries. She recommended the Cruz Verde hospital in Guadalajara which specialises in bone injuries. I have to pay for the orthopedic device only, but there are so many choices. Does anyone have experience with this hospital and what hip joint appliance did you choose and why? Prices range from 20,000 pesos up to 70,000 pesos.

As you already know, from previous pm's, I have ceramic-titanium because metal allergy would not tolerate stainless steel. And yes, you can have MRI with this one (have done so). They also come in pure ceramic, but are the most expensive of all, and my surgeon and I agreed not  worth the extra cost.

Can't speculate on that particular branch of Cruz Verde. DO know that a Mexican friend  needed care after severe  accident (hit by drunk driver) and went 3 times for appt.  at  one of their locations (can't remember which one) , only to wait a long time and find out doctor was not coming that day. HOPE this doesn't happen to you!

Good luck!

Cruz Verde has five small hospitals in Guadalajara. The one I want specializes in bone injuries and replacements. It is funded by the City of Guadalajara. They do have "recovery fees" but they are something like 55 pesos for a specialist. You have to pay for the appliance, but many of the surgeons can get greatly reduced prices from the medical suppliers. You can also jump the wait times by asking for a Cruz Verde Orthopedic Surgeon to jump the system and perform the surgery at a private clinic, for extra $ pesos, but still very affordable compared to private hospitals and private Orthopedic Surgeons, rubbing their hands with glee, everytime someone falls on Ajijic cobblestones or buys a new motorcycle.

The Orthopedic Cruz Verde hospital has one open ward for 10 men, another for 10 women, so this where the bottleneck and wait times might occur. Luck of the draw. They also have four or five ambulances. Curiously, they are the only ones which carry anti-snake venom.

I would only accept the opinions[maybe more than one] from an Orthopedic surgeon @ SAT

Not everyone has the budget for, nor your confidence in, SAT hospital..... not in their surgeon either.

A lot of problems have been caused by AMLO in office, changing goalposts over night, without even telling people. The universal health care system has been the worst affected by this irresponsible, now confusing mess.

It will take a couple of years to clear up.

Gosh for the "serious" situation that you have I hope you are fluent in Spanish or have someone who is..

.sound like the hospital is "similar" to the Civil/IMSS hospital system...if you are poor then I guess cost and not outcome figures into your decision making exercise. Sadly you seem to be caught between a rock and a hard place. I hope the outcome does not give you more pain

No he's just codo .He spends a lot at Quality care though. Hope some are smart enough to consult with Gonzales or his son Ross  at SAT for something this serious. Wonder if Gary shelled out for an MRI which is really important. I fired two orthos and GP for the crap they wanted to do to me that was pure BS.

I had a hip replacement 6 weeks ago through Quality Care and Puerto de Hierro Norte.  The appliance my surgeon recommended was a type manufactured by Stryker in Kalamazoo, MI.  The one I was told the surgeon used is their polypropylene joint system.  Cost was $65,000 pesos.

Stryker has been around for ages. You can’t work in surgery without becoming familiar with the Stryker name.

Appliance only.  Total cost, all in (Puerto de Hierro Norte stay, doctors, anesthesiologist), $157,000, about $10K CDN.
