WANT REFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCED HOME CARE FOR POST-HIP SURGERY

Had my right hip replaced almost 3 years ago in GDL. Strongly recommend Jorge Ulloa for in-home P.T. He and his assistant, Angel, came Monday-Friday for an hour to 90 minutes following my hip replacement surgery. We did multiple exercises on my own massage table.  After 2 weeks, it was time for their Christmas holiday break so I continued doing the same exercises on my own for the next 2 weeks. By the time they returned, I was at the 30 day post surgery time where I could drive myself to their P.T. Clinic in Riberas.  Following one appointment, they cut me loose and told me to continue doing the exercises on my own.  7 weeks later, we were scuba diving in Nicaragua!

Also, Caesar at URDI in the plaza on the libramiento where the PEMEX is located is also EXCELLENT.  He worked with me at his clinic for months before my surgery to strengthen muscles and tendons and try to avoid the surgery but once it was evident I had bone-on-bone in my right hip, I had to move towards replacement.  He and his wife Sandra are FANTASTIC as well.  He also does in-home visits.

Wishing you great luck with your hip replacement and P.T. afterwards.

Salud!

Not exactly clear on your requirement.  Do you want in-home post-op care or in-home physio? Or both?

For in-home care I highly recommend Sra. Rosario (have never known her last name but her husband, Dr. Roberto Martinez, used to have the "Blue House" in upper la Floresta). Have know them and seen them work with patients for years, and she currently does some drop-in care for a friend..  She was the on-duty o/n nurse plus filled many daytime duties as required.  I know for a fact she's available for overnights right now.... and she also does daytime work ... stay or drop-in... PLUS will cook, shop, etc. if needed.  Wonderful caring person and super-capable.  Has a wheelchair and a walker at her disposal, plus an elevated "potty seat" that goes right on top of your own toilet to make it easier for you to sit and rise. Invaluable!. 333-947 7504  PM me for references.

As for physio, I followed  the hospital physio and my doctor's recommendation to the letter after my hip replacement in early 2018.  I had NO problems and things came along famously.  Kind of boring, but I made  list and followed it.....the do's and the don'ts... changing as doc's instructions changed with follow-ups. Personally can't imagine why one would need a physio unless you have some other issues.  And yes, I was bone-on-bone plus several bone spurs, and was barely able to walk with a walker prior.

A year later I got trochanteric bursitis in the other hip.  Same doc sent me to Dra. Justina (west Ajijic) who is an MD plus Rehab Medicine Specialist. She has excellent facilities /staff at her clinic and I did really well  with them. (I had also rehabbed with her after carpal tunnel surgery 2014 or so). I have no idea if she can arrange in-home visits but you can always ask. 376 766 5563

Val, you are married and don't see the need for a real caretaker which is not a physical therapist, which I can get at the Ajijic Clinic.  When you are on a walker, you have to use both hands so you actually need someone to carry things for you, like your dinner to the table.  they need to do errands to buy food, etc. but not housecleaning.  They need to walk alongside you at all times to be sure you don't fall.  The nurse has to bathe you because you can't get the incision wet in a regular shower;  I guess she has to help wash your hair as well.  And do your laundry and tie your shoes.  I went through all this 13 years ago with the actual replacement but I can't remember all the details!  I'm not getting an entire replacement but just a new ball and socket which is a smaller operation, but still requires recovery, etc.  I need someone 24/7 for up to 10 days depending on what the doctor says afterwards.  Maybe 2 people, split shift.   I'm not relishing the idea of being with a stranger all that time, but gotta do it.  This is like a job for me to manage all these things and people, interviews, etc.  My original surgery was an accident so everything was thrown together and worked out fairly well.  Now my life is a bit more complicated.

As I said earlier, contact Sra. Rosario.  She'll do all of the above, but if she can't stay day-times her son is a trained paramedic and might be able to help cover.  IF not, she may have a competent friend.  OR you can contact Sra. Lidia, who has a crew of in-home care staff who can fill whatever hours you need (she assisted a friend for 4 years with this) 333 156  9080

Yes the people from Sr Lydia are good and could fill in. I used one of her woman for my husband for bathing and personal need and the son of my maid came to help during the day to walk around with him, to carry things do errants etc.. If you have a cleaning lady she may know someone interested in being there during the day once the nurse has left. The young man is in his first year  at the university and studies on the computer so the situation was good because you probably do not need someone 100% of the time but you need someone on the ready.. My husband was lucky because he speaks good English.
