ezpz
I just had 3 of these tonight. They have been happening roughly every week for many weeks, lost count. The juice comes right back on, but still, you never know. Anyone know what is happening with this? We are not even having bad weather. Mainecoons
Feels like an intermittent overload situation causing something big to trip and reset. Accompanied by booming sound. Getting worse, never had three in such a short span of time.

Ferret
It has been very windy at times lately. Especially in the evening. Tree branches are batting the cables about. Try and pinpoint if these outages are happening in your area when the wind is up (or not). Keeping branches clear of the lines as a preventative measure does not appear to be important to CFE. They'd rather react after the fact.

Northeast blackout of 2003 The cause of this blackout was tree branches. The report states that a generating plant in Eastlake, Ohio, a suburb northeast of Cleveland, went offline amid high electrical demand, putting a strain on high-voltage power lines (located in Walton Hills, Ohio, a southeast suburb of Cleveland) which later went out of service when they came in contact with "overgrown trees". This trip caused load to transfer to other transmission lines, which were not able to bear the load, tripping their breakers. Once these multiple trips occurred, many generators suddenly lost parts of their loads, so they accelerated out of phase with the grid at different rates, and tripped out to prevent damage. The cascading effect that resulted ultimately forced the shutdown of at least 265 power plants.

Why fix anything until it's broken and the complaints are rolling in? (Of course the same could be said of some other places in the world)
Go Solar
Here is a graph of some of them on March 1 earlier this week from a solar monitoring system......cropped for client privacy....has been going on a lot in that area and appears to be broadening geographically from the comments here. Will go into our master account and check this further from users in other neighbourhoods.

And leave them in the road. Not their job to clean up afterward, of course.

That's what I thought last night as we had branch issues years ago with a transformer on our block that would knock us offline for a 2 block radius until the trees were trimmed. But after reading this morning that @Mainecoons had the same outages, it does not seem to be localized. We are at about 3/4 mile (10 blocks) away from each other. As in all things....be careful what you ask for.......Ontario Hydro crews come around "proactively" and cut tree limbs and branches near the lines.....however in most streetscapes, the poor trees look like a giant version of a straight cut hedge when they are done. Normal limbs, branches and leaves on the house side.....bare and stripped on the street side. "Muy feo"....it is done for function, not aesthetics, that's for sure, and takes several years to start to look normal again.
Mainecoons
I don't think there was much wind in Ajijic yesterday evening when this was happening. What is making that booming sound when it happens? Don't recall hearing that before they redid the power lines in this area.
Holalola
It was very windy in our area when it happened last night in West Ajijic. We didn't hear a booming sound though...
lcscats
When fuses blow it make a very loud explosive noise. If the trees cause shorts from the wind eventually it will blow a fuse. The three loss of services last night were very very short but long enough my voltage regulator could not buffer my android box so shutdown and reboot happened. These short outages may be from a fuse exploding somewhere far away and feeding back thru the wires. So you could be getting short failures and maybe or maybe not hear the boom of a fuse blowing. You can stick a fence post in the ground and watch it sprout leaves here. Not in Canada. It's very calm out there right now. Anybody having electrical problems?
