Mainecoons
OK here's the deal. One of our Oaxaca students is an "accidental" American. She was born in Santa Fe, NM, and has 4 certified original copies of her Santa Fe, NM, birth certificate. We want to get her a U.S. passport so she can travel in the RV with us this summer but with all the covid business not sure how to proceed. Wonder if there is a local expediter who can help us out with this.
Mostlylost
It's pretty basic. The US consulate in GD visits Chapala once a month so you can do it easily yourself. https://mx.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/passport-services/ Here is the information on getting a first time passport https://www.usa.gov/passport

Chapala has been announced & cancelled more than once. In any case the consulate in GDL is easy to get to and is by appointment You can call (33) 4624-2102 or email ACSGDL@state.gov for help. Filling in the paperwork is pretty basic.
artsnob
just remember you can not take your cell phone into the consulate...
PNR1
This thread is most illustrative of the misinformation found on this board. First time passports for those 16 and under Must be issued at the consulate. All details including items needed for applicants and parents available online at ACSGDL@state.gov. They are currently NOT coming to lakeside, but renewal adult passport info is under Customs and Immigration and LCS sites on this board.
Mainecoons
Yes it is very clear in the on line information she must visit the local consulate. The links are great, thanks for the info. It takes 3 months after she applies to get the passport. Supposedly they will accept U.S. cash in person at the time of her appointment but we'll check that too. Mainecoons
Interesting though, the on line appointment system shows no availability through the end of the year.

This really isn't an emergency. Guess we'll have to wait. I'd request it as urgent under "family unification" for travel purposes......stating you have travel commitment and don't want to leave her behind in MX as a unaccompanied single female. That's all true based on what you mention and might be enough to make the diff. Suerte.
