happyjillin
Any artists have someone that they trust to do this. I have 3 paintings done by my great great uncle in 1885 that my mother had hired someone to clean and re-varnish. Not well done and the portrait of his grandmother was re-stretched and is wavy. For one thing can the shine be taken off the varnish without causing damage and of course properly stretch his grandmother's portrait? happyjillin
I require references from people, preferably artists have had work like this done by an expert but thanks for trying to help.
CHILLIN
Here is another company in Guadalajara, Ars Fabrefactus, which seems to offer the quality of work you require https://m.facebook.com/pages/category/Art-Restoration-Service/Ars-Fabrefactus-546220782496997/ There is another big team in CDMX, who was doing a large restoration in the Cabanas de Hospicio in Guadalajara. I don't if they are finished yet, or possibly picked up some more projects there. You would have to do a search of the Reporter to find them. There is at least 1 artist on this board and some people that have or have had galleries as well as perhaps some that have had similar work done. Those are preferable references to those given by a person who may want to do the work. I am not capable to do painting restoration but this is not my first rodeo in a similar vein. I restore antiques and folk art so hence why I request references first. I may call him for "or something''.

Yes, Artsnob - artist and gallery owner - who has already answered your question.
CHILLIN
Simple. Look at the credentials of the conservators at Ars Fabricatus under tools de trabajo, and then compare. It is not an artist you are looking for, but a conservator. These are fine heirloom pieces, and they deserve the best. https://arsfabrefactus.wixsite.com/arsf
happyjillin
So if you smart persons were looking for a mechanic to fix your car,you would go to a mechanic first and ask them for references as to whether he is good or not?  Nobody has given any detail to answer my question, just a person's name who may or may not be capable of what I ask. Upfront is probably correct about me wasting my time asking on this bored. I am not looking for an artist,I am looking for a restoration specialist that some people have used for exactly what I have requested and I would also like to know if there is someone that can restore an early 20th century lithograph with foxing damage. Why do all of you bother posting on here if you can't answer a simple question? Artsnob didn't answer the question either.
mexart
One thing to do is get a digital copy of the original artwork. The wave and the shine can be taken out via photoshop. And a new cleaned up printed on canvas Google giclee printing.
CHILLIN
I have known Pedro a long time, but maybe not that well. I imagine this is something on his bucket list, to restore family heirlooms. I know, and respect the technique that you are talking about, but in this case it would mean some other family member pocketing the costs of conservation, not what he wants. He is also asking about paper document repair, something else the Guadalajara conservatores can provide. What he needs is a bilingual translator who can help him through the procedures without any misunderstandings. The costs in Mexico would be at least 1/2 of those in Canada or the USA. gringal
Enrique Velazquez is fluent in English, so I'd advise going to him for this. His gallery has regular hours. If he doesn't do this kind of work himself, he would probably know who to contact. I don't think that having a color copy of the painting is Pedro's goal.

The paintings are in my home here now because I inherited them after my mother died last year and IÂ am responsible for the costs. I am trying to support someone local as I have supported the arts here as I posted before and IÂ don't need a translator but IÂ have the knowledge to judge someones skill in doing so. Yes you don't know me that well at all. These paintings have been enjoyed by me all my life and IÂ am upset by what someone did to them but know it can be rectified. IÂ may even try to do it myself but right now i don't know what varnish was used on them. The proper stretching of my ancestor's portrait IÂ know I am not capable of doing. Yo1
If you've ever seen an "Old Master" painting in person, they certainly have a sheen to them and are several hundred years old. BTW--your paintings are very beautiful!!

gimpychimp
Maestro Miguel Mora lives in Chapala and has done many restorations of art for the museums in Mexico City. He has many years of experience and if anyone local could help you I bet it would be him. He is the artist who recently supervised the touchup of the big mural on the carretara near Chapala and also painted the art inside the dome at the end of the Chapala malecon.
