Well, since AMLO stated that he was never going to wear a mask until corruption in Mexico was eradicated...everybody around him should have been cautious about getting infected.  Let's hope they were smarter than he is.  He never grasped that masks are to protect others more than yourself although they help in that way too.  Think about doctors who wear masks and gloves when operating.  That is to protect the patient.  But if a doctor enters a room where somebody has TB, for instance, they wear masks to help protect themselves.  I'm not sure why AMLO decided to link two unrelated issues like COVID and corruption into his "red line" but he has proven on many prior occasions to be in over his head.  I don't wish anybody to get sick but we shouldn't be surprised that he did fall ill...just like another recently retired leader.  Alan

I agree with Mudgirl.   If he wants to downplay the seriousness of this virus and  by doing so, put the lives of his Mxn. constituents at risk, then he doesn't deserve any treatment.

Not hateful, just a fact !   They won't "understand it" unless they get a taste of their own nonsense.   Other leaders treated with best medicines, continued on by saying "Covid is no big deal !"

Seriously ???  I think Mexico has the highest death rate per capita than other. any other country.     SAD when leaders do not take it seriously!

Not one poster, including me, has said they wished death on him- that was your interpretation and I assume why you characterized my post as hateful.

I don't wish death or suffering on anyone, but when someone as influential as a head of state publicly states that amulets and right thinking will protect them from COVID, then that's exactly what they should use for their own treatment.

So you wished illness on him.  Oh that is ever so  much better.  Thanks for straightening me out.

I can't figure out what anyone expects the head of a weak government in a country with minimal public health capability and resources, a lot of people with conditions that make covid worse or fatal, state governments that go their own way and a culture that is highly social and somewhat fatalistic.  Believe it or not, the head of a country, any country is not some sort of omnipotent god who can snap his fingers and all is well.  And particularly here where there are so many factors working against him.

In reality there was little anyone could do, these lockdowns have been a massive failure and have created great poverty, suffering and death on their own.  I believe he believes nature is going to run its course and I also believe the majority of Mexicans agree with him.  Self righteous expats who think government and control can fix every thing may not like this in which case I suggest you get used to it and keep the focus on your own self protection.  And to wish death on him because he, and in fact most Mexicans do not see things your way, is despicable.

All I want him to do is wear a mask.  It has nothing to do with what you said which has a lot of truth in it. Why won't he wear a mask??

Where did I indicate I wished illness on him? He's already ill, and that has nothing to do with me. I was only speaking to what treatment options should be for those who adamantly deny the dangers of the virus and claim that this or that absurd thing, rather than following the medical advice, will protect them.

Stop putting words in my mouth and learn to read what is written, rather than apply your own biased interpretation.

So interesting the logic displayed by some.  Based on that logic all hospitals, doctors, and emergency rooms should have a form to fill out before treatment for anything.

Did a careless action on your part cause your need for treatment?

If the answer is "yes" then they should be refused treatment.....

Yet another poster who applies their own interpretation to someone else's words.

There is an enormous difference between "careless action" and actively promoting false information, and failing to respond responsibly to a major worldwide health threat, when that is in fact part of the job you were elected to oversee.

I for one do not wish him a speedy recovery. This would certainly signal to many people that the pandemic is nothing to be concerned about and maybe even a hoax.  Seen this scenario before ?

Slow two week recovery with hints of "he might not make it !" would be better.

Carlos Slim  also has covid... He has had it for a week nd is doing fine according to his son..

Of course most of these big shots are doing fine- they have immediate access to the best medical attention available. Drugs that aren't available to the general public, ongoing attention and monitoring, probably family allowed to be with them for companionship and moral support.

There have been many articles and videos put out by people who were COVID deniers, didn't mask or distance, who got the virus, infected other family members and friends, some of whom even died, and are getting the message out that this is real and dangerous and that they were totally wrong in disbelieving it, urging others who think like they thought to smarten up.

I have no issue with those people, I applaud them for admitting they were misinformed and stupid and who are trying to save others and their loved ones from the same fate.

It's the ones who get the virus, yet continue to downplay it, saying it was no big deal, that hardly anyone dies from it, that everyone dies from something eventually, and continue to act irresponsibly that disgust me.

I read an article about a young man in the US who had sickened and died after attending one of those insane coronavirus parties where kids were placing bets on who would get it and who wouldn't, like it was just fun and games. The nurse who was with him when he died said his last words were, "I thought the virus was a hoax. I was wrong."

So sad.

Might be hiding out from the latest news no vaccines have been ordered. [34.4 million Pfizer vaccines on Dec. 2nd. were never ordered] The Pfizer 128,000 vaccinations were a gift from Trump and the total Pfizer vaccines recieved is only 463,000 that Mexico ordered and the Chinese CanSino were free to test and Sputnik vaccine was ordered today. No other makes of vaccines have been recieved.

This is the plan they have to vaccinate the population

Yesterday AMLO was going to order Sputnik V vaccinations when talking to Putin. They ordered 7.4 million.

Mexico plans application of Chinese and Russian covid vaccines without phase 3 results: biologist

Two-thirds of the 21 million 394 thousand doses of vaccines to inoculate 14 million 172 thousand Mexicans that the government of Mexico has agreed to are from the Cansino and Sputnik V laboratories.

The arrival of the vaccines from Russia and China has already been announced, but there is still no authorization from COFEPRIS. (Jesus Quintanar)

FANNY MIRANDA

Mexico City / 24.01.2021 05:36:03

Although Mexico has a defined vaccination plan against covid-19, the candidate Sputnik V and the Chinese candidate from Cansino - two of the four vaccines that were chosen to immunize the majority of the population - are not clear about their efficacy and safety , as they still do not have the results of the Phase 3 studies, which is worrying given the fact that the first shipments arrive next week, so pressure is presumed to authorize their emergency use in the country, he said. Roselyn Lemus-Martin, PhD in molecular biology from the University of Oxford.

"The success of the vaccination plan is being based on two vaccines that are not even approved, which are Cansino and Sputnik V, neither of them is yet approved by Cofepris and there is already talk that they will arrive in the country next week. It is worrying, because Cofepris is going to approve the two emergencies without having correctly evaluated the efficacy and safety data, "she said in an interview with MILENIO.

The only vaccine that has been applied in Mexico is Pfizer, which is authorized for emergency use in Mexico. (Omar Franco)

The Mexican government reached agreements for the acquisition between January and March, of 21 million 394 thousand doses of vaccines to inoculate 14 million 172 thousand Mexicans, but 14 million 350 thousand vaccines - two thirds of the doses - are from CanSino and Sputnik Vdeveloped by the Gamaleya Research Institute, which has not yet been authorized.

“From Sputnik V, they on their website claim they are 91 percent effective, they claim it without showing results or information that really supports that. It is worrying, because we saw it from Phase 2, when many scientists spoke about it because they saw that some data was even falsified, they were not correct, from there we started badly ”, she lamented.

Mexico will close an agreement with CanSino to have a vaccine against covid-19 in January. (Special)

As for the Cansino laboratory vaccine, the specialist stressed that the main problem with it is that "unfortunately it has a very low immune response in people over 55 years old," so it would be a mistake to apply it to older adults.

We recommend: Sputnik, Pfizer, CanSino or AstraZeneca: When do more vaccines arrive in Mexico?

According to the pharmaceutical delivery program, presented this week by the Foreign Minister, of those authorized for emergency use, 5 million 044 thousand doses of Pfizer-BionTech launderette will arrive in the country to inoculate 2 million 522 thousand Mexicans , since a double dose is required. While only 2 million doses of AztraZeneca vaccine will be available at the end of March - its active component is already in the country - with which one million people can be immunized, as it also requires double doses.

Moderna's vaccine is the most expensive because each dose is $ 36, while Pfizer's is half. (Jesus Quintanar)

As for the Sputnik V vaccine, whose shipments will begin to arrive next week, there will be 7 million 400 thousand doses, to vaccinate 3.7 million people. And by mid-February, the arrival of shipments of the CanSino vaccine is expected, of which 6 million 950 thousand doses have been committed, for the same number of people, since it only requires the application of one dose."

Once  again I agree with Mudgirl.  I , too, applaud those that have recuperated from Covid and have the common sense to learn from their bad experience and habits.  For example, former Gov. Chris Christie came on TV and was very apologetic for his not practicing safe habits prior to getting Covid.   He set the record straight and was enlightened by his illness.

I hope the same for AMLO !  Hope that this is a learning experience and that a light bulb goes on in his head and smart words about safe practices come out of his mouth moving forward !

FWIW my nephew teaches and has lived in China for 7 years. When the Chinese government offered the vaccine to all the teachers, after they researched the vaccine (these teachers all have advanced degrees--my nephew is a lawyer), they all declined to take it. But the Chinese teachers on staff were required to take it.

This was not CanSino. But he said CanSino will likely be the next vaccine he will be offered. He said the final trials have not been made public yet: he is not optimistic.
