lakeside7
A few weeks ago I was paying 45- 55 pesos for a regular 1kg of Vanilla ice cream. Now the prices are 65-75 pesos...is there a cow shortage??
Fred Habacht
Cows don't "give" ice cream.... 1
RickS
Right, but it was/is a good question. What causes a 40% increase like that? In the US, we would hear that it is 'Covid-19' but of course one cannot either prove or disprove an answer like that!
cedros
I hope you are buying Holanda brand-it is the best anywhere.

mudgirl
Some trivia: You'd tend to think that hot countries would be the largest consumers of ice cream, but in fact Canada and Sweden are.
Al Berca
Haagen Daz is about 200 for a half liter depending on which flavor. Most expensive and best ice cream I’ve ever tasted. I am addicted.
dichosalocura
Does anybody know why Holanda brand has zero imagination? All they make is Neopolitan, Cookies-n-Cream and Vanilla. That is basically all you see in México, and God forbid, don't ever try the off brands. From time to time you will see Sealtest ice cream at Soriana with flavors like cookie dough and reeses cup ice cream among other exciting flavors. But never at Wal-Mart. dichosalocura
I almost forgot about Nestle's but yet again all they make is vanilla, cookies-n- cream and neopolitan. 😴
rafterbr
At one time I owned a ice cream parlor. The most popular flavor I sold was chocolate. There is a privately owned ice cream store chain here in Oklahoma, which is also now in Texas , called Braum's. They have their own dairy herd which is used for the ice cream.
mudgirl
There was a ice cream shop in Sayulita that sold Blue Bell ice cream. It was great and they had tons of yummy flavors- the cinnamon was my favorite and the raspberry cheesecake was delicious, too.
AngusMactavish
The best ice cream I have found around here is Dolphy. There is a shop by the Beer Garden in Chapala. https://www.dolphhttps://www.dolphy.com.mx/index.php/productos/heladosy.com.mx/ That is 29 flavors. Bisbee Gal
I like small-batch ice cream with exotic flavors. Best locally is the homemade Ginger Lemongrass ice cream at Chopsticks in Ajijic. We buy and keep it in our freezer at home. Here is the description from their website, Our homemade ice cream is made using full fat milk, heavy cream and egg yolks giving the final product a rich, smooth and creamy mouth feel with every spoonful. Our flavours range from the exotic – Ginger Lemongrass to the more traditional – Chocolate, Chocolate Chip. Ask us what flavours Betty made this week.
lcscats
Costco French vanilla (best value/good taste) and a new flavor from Hagen Das is Chocolate with dark chocolate pieces added (best flavor). Its a new flavor.

I like the chocolate chip mint, and the black raspberry cheese. The individual store chooses which flavors to stock.
Ferret
Holanda is my favourite ice cream. If you really want to have some fun, let your "ice cream" sit on the counter for a few hours. Holanda actually melts into a liquid... others do not.
CHILLIN
I always thought the handmade Mexican ice creams were supposed to be among the best in the world? Handmade in the sense that workers use wooden paddles to knead the freezing ice cream. One article I read was about a heladeria in Jocotepec. https://delishably.com/desserts/Michoacan-Neveria-Heladeria-Flavors
AndyPanda
I find many (most) Mexican ice creams a bit grainy. There is a place in La Floresta, though, Nieves Arrañaga, that is really really good. And of course their prices reflect that.

Isn't there a place next door to Pranzo's that sells blue bell ice cream. Think the store is called Manhattan. Never been so can't comment further.
