Mercado Libre ID required

Recommended Posts

I am trying to log into Mercado Libre and they are now requiring you upload a copy of your Mexican ID with photo.   It would not accept my drivers license, passport, or Temporal Residencia Visa.  I don't have my final card yet but don't know if that will be accepted either.  Anyone have any luck buying at Mercado Libre with these new requirements?  I absolutely don't shop at Amazon, so please don't suggest that.

Are you trying to log in to an existing account? or create a new account?

I have had my account for years also and have been filling my shopping basket with small items for a couple of months.  Now, as of yesterday, I get an email security code, sometimes I get the Captcha (sp) photos, and now they want a Mexican photo ID.  I have no idea why and can't get into my account at all.  Thanks for your comment.   I was able to open a new account with a different email address without a photo ID but not an ideal situation as I don't actively use the second email address.

Gee i just went into my account , and the same thing after all  these years, l sent pictures of two documents, so probably wont hear back till tomorrow..

Please post your results and if you don't mind, which ID they accepted.  I won't have my official Residence card until next week.  Funny that I was to open a new account without any ID but then I have not tried to check out yet either.  Very strange.  Don't they want us to buy their stuff?

Happened to me too as buyer and as seller. They only accept INE/IFE. But you need to contact support to ask if they can accept passport/residence card. It might be necessary to contact several times as depending on the person who answers might not know passport is possible too for non Mexicans as they think we can also get an INE. Support of ML is pretty much hit or miss. But you will finally get some one who will accept your passport and residence card as ID.

If they are accessing their account on the Mercadolibre platform they are not being spoofed.

Mercadolibre is trying  to prevent fraud which in the past few months has increased exponentially.

Mercadolibre has a 79 billion dollar market cap and is operating in 19 countries.

Probably because most of Meradolibre support agents are in Columbia and don't understand Mexican ID requirements

I would never provide that kind of information to a buy/sell Website. I can't think of any good reason that they would need it. I suspect you are being spoofed.

Not being spoofed. Everything goes through the website of Mercadolibre. As  @Mostlylostmentioned , fraudes are very high, which is true for both sellers and buyers which also cost a lot of money to Mercadolibre. Lot of fraudulent buyers return products empty/broken/etc and Mercadolibre will need to pay the seller the money of the product as they already returned the money to the buyer. So they try to get less fraudulent buyers taking these steps. Also because of new laws for sellers, ID is required, as are taxnumbers to can continue selling on mercadolibre and other electronic platforms. Without this information you pay way higher taxes if you want to continue selling on Mercadolibre. So it isn't an option to don't give this information unless you don't want to sell anymore on the biggest ecomerce platform of Mexico.

The problem is indeed many of the support center are working from another country. Only when you get one working from Mexico they understand the problem of not being able getting an INE/IFE as foreigner otherwise continue bugging their support center to accept passport/migration card.

Well I'm sure glad I saw this before trying to buy anything on there.  I understand the DL isn't generally accepted for ID (although have used mine several times for this) I'm surprised immigration cards or passports aren't.

Artsnob I'd also like to know what you used that worked.  I have Permanente, U.S. passport and Jalisco DL.
