Gardener Needed in Chapala Haciendas

well good luck, I have experienced the people in CHiapas and the ones here and I can tell you I would pick a chiapaneco or somone from Oaxaca any time over anyone here. I feel the people here are spoiled and overpad for what they do and do not have much pride in their work.. Of course there are exceptions but as a rule the gardeners here are awful. and overpaid.Themaid are way better than the gardener..  Rght now I have a great mason as well but good people are few and worth cultivating.. or pverpaying compare to the others.

I have to agree about the knowledge of "gardeners" here. Unfortunately, parents take boys out of school to begin earning for the family . Too often they end up listless hose holders with no gardening knowledge unless they apprenticed under a master gardener..

As far as pay goes, it is a matter of cost of living. To compare Chiapas with here is like comparing New York City with Mississippi

I have someone now (who is being well paid) who is unreliable and not doing what I need, so I'd appreciate some referrals.   I know some people in my area overpay (the gringo rate) and I really don't want to do that.

Okay.  Obviously, there are problems which I am experiencing, however, what would be helpful are referrals which is what I requesting in my original post.

What rate do you want to pay?  Without knowing that, how can anyone make what you would consider to be suitable referrals?  Frankly I have no idea what the "gringo rate" is, so you'll have to tell us.

then you have not been paying attention. this bored has dozens perhaps hundreds of discussions of gardener and maid prices. every gringo i have ever met here has a gardener and we all have discussed their prices. it is not an unfair question. and if i suggest a rate and the op likes it or not is up to them

I do not understand what this sentence actually says or if this comment is addressed to me or someone else's post.

In any event, I have searched this board and that is how I got the maintenance service I now have that is not working out.  The rates vary from 70 pesos and up and it changes as to whether or not they have their own equipment and what service they provide.  I have my own equipment, but I an flexible.  This is my second yard person.  The first one would not show up half the time.  This one is paid way more and not working out and I don't want to have to go into the details.

I don't think I need to state how much I want to pay.  I think that decision will be made depending on the service I am being offered and provided.  Each person has different skills (landscaping, versus just cutting and edging, etc.).  It is equally my understand that the rate varies depending on the location of the house and that is why I provided that information....so I am back to my original request.  If you do not have a referral, no need to post.

You stated in your original post that you didn't want to pay "gringo prices", yet refuse to say how much you are willing to pay for a good job. I quit giving referrals to friends or acquaintances for competent tradespeople because some of those people expected to get high quality work done for a insulting amount of money. It doesn't really matter whether the gardener is pruning, raking, mowing, carting off clippings, etc- an hour of work is an hour of work.

Others might be more forthcoming with referrals if you indicated what you'd be willing to pay for reliable, competent labor.

Oh my goodness!  Things really get convoluted on this Board sometimes.  I do not want or need advice or what to pay or whether or not anyone agrees with me, etc., etc.,  If you don't have a referral or don't want to provide one, then no need to post.

sorry. fixed that to make it easier to recognize. on your side in this one. fair price is the same as community standards for pornography. how can you find out if you dont ask. everyone here has an opinion. when they suggest you should not even be allowed to ask on a bored that promotes asking well that is just wasting our time

let me help. i have a friend who pays 300p for one hour for three people because he cant find anyone else. i think that is ludicrus. they trim mow and weed. the maid gets paid substantially less at 50p per hour and could do the same job because it is not a skillset to trim mow and weed. but she is a cleaning lady and nota garden person. my own gardener gets 50 an hour and spends 4 hours and that is a good wage for here

Yes.  That is my understanding as well.  There is a whole range of gardening service and range of pay.

Trying to lighten up this thread.

Lee Travino, the Mexican American multi-championship winning golfer lives in Southern California in a big home, gated community.

He tells the story, that he was working around the garden, wearing some old gardening clothes. A lady pulls up, fancy convertible, waves him over. She says she needs some work at her place, how much does he charge? Travino says zero. The lady looks stunned. Then he says but I get to sleep with the owner every night! Classy gent.
