cedros
Does any one know where one can buy a metal wedge for splitting wood? I tried at the new Home Depot in Zapaopan today and they don't sell them. They said that they are called mangos. Some local hardware store might carry them. Otherwise we will have to get one made. AndyPanda
Have not seen any, but a splitting maul might be more readily available around here.
cedros
Just now, AndyPanda said: Have not seen any, but a splitting maul might be more readily available around here. What is a splitting maul?
cedros
I see what they are now; https://www.google.ca/search?q=splitting+maul&newwindow=1&sxsrf=ALeKk02vln9ut-u8os4U2Q1OwD554D9b6g:1603838789008&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=_fka7Gp4DDeAWM%252C65IoRPi3JZwf_M%252C_&vet=1&usg=AI4_-kTc0wSN2qIo8Ji9WQDEoqeLE18vsA&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwibua6K7dXsAhUDO60KHSusDS4Q_h16BAgQEAU#imgrc=_fka7Gp4DDeAWM The head of some of them is very much like a wedge so you might be better off just getting a wedge. happyjillin
I have split a lot of firewood over the years using a maul. It's the best way to do it. They are carried here by truper outlets.
AngusMactavish
Xena, is that you?
cedros
I have split cords of wood over the years and for me a wedge functions better that a maul. If I can't find a wedge locally I may get one made. This is actually for a neighbour and he wants a wedge.
Susy Wilson
I have been looking for a hatchet to split small wood for my wood fired pizza oven with no results yet either:/ I also checked the new Home Depot with no luck. Anyone know of anyplace here for one?
bmh
I think a wedge is called a cuña... could be wrong but that is what I kind of remember

If hardware stores carry Truper mauls they would probably also carry axes and hatchets which are used more frequently then mauls.
bmh
ok I see I remembered correctly.. Ask for a cuña in a hardware store and they should have one. I know I bought one, years ago here but like everything else it seems to be missing in action..
mudgirl
Yes, cuña means wedge. It isn't just the term for that tool. It's used for anything that's wedge-shaped. When I buy foam for back couch cushions that are wedge-shaped, they're also called cuñas. Spanish lesson for the day, folks.
bmh
same with the metal spatula the painters use.
bmh
The word wedge in English is the same and used in many other instances other than the tool.
