RickS
From a forum in San Miguel. Can't confirm accuracy but.... It costs from 100,000 to more than half a million pesos to treat for Covid-19 in a private hospital in Celaya. Just for the admission the patient or their relatives must pay between 20 thousand and 60 thousand pesos. To that, we must add the cost per day of hospitalization and how many doctors are involved in the care. ... In the Center for Medical Specialties the patient requires a deposit of 25 thousand pesos to enter, the cost varies between 25 and 30 thousand pesos per day depending on the severity , in addition to this, you must pay five thousand pesos per doctor per day.

RickS
Does anyone know/has anyone checked as to what their Mexican insurance plan covers with respect to Covid-19? I know that in the US there are new government mandated laws that are designed to make sure insurance IS covering tests and docs and hospitalization from the virus but of course that has nothing to do with coverage in Mexico. I'm insured by AXA and checked with my agent when the pandemic started. He confirmed that I have coverage for COVID.

I would say no. They are non profit with no shareholders to answer to and they usually have enough specialists on staff, on payroll, to cover nearly everything. If you require a ventilator, and there are non available, you might elect to rent one from an outside company. You would pay the hospital, and they negotiate the rental fee. Often 50% off. This is why the Governor of Jalisco was monitoring hospital occupancies. They are still emergency only and I thought this applied to private hospitals as well. I believe hospital occupancy never got above 40%. If it goes over 50, he is prepared to shut down to full quarantine.
thevalerieleigh
I checked with my Agent at GNP Health Insurance and he confirmed that my policy DOES cover COVID-19 treatment(s). He also texted me yesterday to tell me the San Antonio Hospital now accepts my GNP Health Insurance. Stay safe, everyone. Val

There is no charge.
HoneyBee
How do you treat COVID-19 ? (other then the use of a ventilator if needed)
RickS
That virus has many many faces potentially presented differently by the person who has been affected.... and to try and answer as a lay person 'how do you treat it' depends totally upon what symptoms are being presented by the victim. The answer can be as simple as 'stay at home, take some aspirin and self-quarantine' to 'being confined to a special ICU unit at a hospital where personnel are versed as to how to address your many possible symptoms'.
