Dear Ajijic Community: September 22, 2020
With great sadness and with a divided heart! We inform you that as of September 22, for family reasons, "Handyman Helping" through the restaurant La Bodega de Ajijic, will not be able to continue cooking food to the most people in need. This movement began on April 7, thanks to the unconditional financial support of so many benefactors, together we have achieved 48,653 dishes that many families had, day by day, food on their table.
Likewise, we inform you that La Bodega de Ajijic restaurant will be closed from today until further notice.
Thankful for your great generosity towards this cause! We also thank all the restaurant staff for their unconditional help, as well as all our suppliers who gave us special prices, we hope to resume restaurant service soon.
With love: Diego, Martha and Javier

So the "family reasons" for closure is that a family member has Covid.  Nice of them to close, but shouldn't the customers know the reason so they (the customers) can take necessary precautions?  Wonder why they are being secretive about the reason for closure?  Seems a public health issue need to know.  Very inappropriate on the part of La Bodega not to let the public know.  Wonder if they are hiding anything else. . .

it is a family business. they owe us no details. rejoice in the knowledge that they served almost 50000 meals to the needy. be empathetic in the knowledge that they have been open for decades and now this

and just on the off chance that covid is involved why should you worry. they are CLOSED. you cant go there.

You got that right! Too many busybodies here spouting off on things that they have no real knowledge of.

This notice was mostly concerning the free food program there for families effected by the virus. This is very sad but reality. They also said "we hope to resume restaurant service soon." Hope so, since over the years have spent many enjoyable nights there enjoying the great music as well as the food. I am sure that the lockdown on band music has greatly cut into their business.

Well, woof, woof.  Such vehemence, doggies.  This here doggie just wanted to get a verification of the information he received from 3 (count them) people very close to La Bodega who informed this here doggie that Covid was indeed the reason for closing the restaurant.  And, indeed this puppy dog created a new account yesterday to check out this information because he knew, just KNEW, that there are folks here that cannot resist kicking a stray.  Yep, glad they are closed but not glad that folks who were probably exposed to the virus while dancing and singing and “over the years have spent many enjoyable nights there enjoying the great music as well as the food.” have not been informed.  And, another yep to “it is a family business. they owe us no details” BUT, THEY SERVE THE PUBLIC!  I mean, really, if I had rabies, it would be announced to the world to protect all you other doggies in the area.  And this doggie thought that a business that had a Covid case was required to report it to the big dogs in Chapala and undergo rigorous sanitizing and inspection before reopening.  Is that only for unpopular doggie bars

Then, we are to “rejoice in the knowledge that they served almost 50000 meals to the needy. be empathetic in the knowledge that they have been open for decades and now this”  Well, let’s say that if they were serving meals every day for 28 weeks beginning in mid March; by this puppy’s calculation that would be 255 meals a day!  A terrier who lives in the neighborhood who went regularly to beg for scraps, went hungry because they were serving, at best, only about 50 meals a day.

There are lots of doggy owners out there very worried about this here Covid-19 virus but I guess that there are a lot of doggies not worried because we can’t get it from hanging out in bars like doggy owners.  So, go sing and dance and drink away but know that you just may have been exposed to something besides a good time.  Might be smart to go get tested, ya think?

Don’t get me wrong (even though I think you will); this pup feels very badly for all businesses affected by this pandemic.  But he also believes that business owners need to be responsible and keep the public informed.
