Mainecoons
Someone rather stupid stole my Mexican cell phone, a $30 flip phone, in the U.S. It is long since expired on time. I have a replacement and am going to get a new sim card. Is it possible to keep my old phone number and how would I go about asking for that? Do I need to go directly to TelCel? Gracias! artsnob
Telcel will let you keep old number, that is why you need to go to main office..

TelsZ4
A slightly different situation but Ana at Telcel by Alex’s pasta bar helped me out when I lost my phone, she sold me a new SIM card and transferred my old number to the new SIM card. Mostlylost
If it is a Telcel pre-pay number and it has not been recharged for a long time (over 6 months) the number will be recycled.

She did the same for me when Telcel at Laguna would not.

cedros
So the solution to keeping your old number might be to keep going back to Telcel until you find a Telcel employees who will allow it.
