Yo1
I just happened by Purple Garlic Pizza's location in SAT. The gate was open so I stopped and went in. I noticed that their hours start at 1pm but it was 12:45. I asked if it was too early to get a para llavar. He said, "We open at one". I looked at my watch and said, "it's only quarter to 1". He said in rather nasty tone, "You can get your pizza at 1:10." His tone was snotty and then he escorted me out the gate, practically pushing me on to the sidewalk. As I got into my car I said he him, "You have the most expensive pizza around. And your delivery charge is too high". (Delivery is 100 pesos--I was quite surprised my first time) He insinuated that he didn't want my business anyway. Only at the very end did I get snotty with him. He was way too rude and could have handled the situation in a much more professional way. Like,"Thank you for coming be we don't open until one. Would you like to wait or have it delivered?" I have never been treated this way by any business since I've been here and it's been 15 years. No mas para me!! 1
rafterbr
It is ridiculous to be treated this way. You held your cool a lot better than I would have. I will add this to my no visit restaurants. I have owned several restaurants and usually our doors were locked until opening time but if a customer arrived early, we would get them a drink and tell them it would be just a few minutes while we were opening. By the same token if they arrived 5 minutes to closing we would welcome them. Sometimes my staff would complain but I would remind them without happy customers we would not be open. Mostlylost
Some restaurant owners never learn that they are classified as a "service business" for a reason.
artsnob
I gave up on them when they were on Ajijic plaza, they were playing all kinds of amplified games and driving the good paying customers away and now that I have new owner at MandJ improved pizza I don’t need to go anywhere else and they have great attitudes to customers ... Carnivore
There's been too much confusion about M & J and Purple Garlic. When M & J. was located on 16th of Septiembre (S.W. corner of Donato Guerra) the young Mexican man who subsequently opened, with his American wife's family, "Purple Garlic" on the Carretera (on the North side just across from the Ajijic bus terminal). M & J ended up opening a very tiny place on Guadalupe Victoria (2 blocks east of the Plaza on the north side facing the long established picture framing shop.) There has not been any connection between Purple Garlic and M & J's since. Purple Garlic in their subsequent locations became so improperly managed that even their minimal staff were confused. Purple Garlic has simply died as a functioning business. Sadly, the result of underfunding, lack of direction and terrible "interfering family dynamics". Artsnob (Thanks Ken) will, obviously keep us current on M & J as they move forward.
