#HarryB
If you are using the square blue and white signs from a papelaria soon you will be fined if parked in a handicap space. To get a legal government issued permit do the following: 1. Make a copy of your visa, front and back 2. Copy your latest CFE or phone bill showing your address 3. Get a letter from your doctor stating why you should be entitled to a handicap sign and for how long. 4. Copy your CURP front and back 5. Take these to DIF Chapala ( on Degollado on the left, I believe) 6. Go straight back to the rehab room (Last room on the left and submit your paperwork. I had a form for instructions that required a wheelbarrow full of paper work and a letter from more than one doctor. So I haven't applied even though I am permanently disabled and only park in places that are easy to get too.

I wonder if they will accept my Texas handicap hanger. I know they are signatory to an agreement to accept and honor tags from US, Canada and othere countries, won't that include the handicap tag or hanger? I got one too and it is not recognized by Mexico. I use it on my Mexican plated when I can find an empty space not occupied by someone with no tag of any sort. #HarryB
I will try to get the Transito to honor out of country CURRENT gov issued permits. There are two types of permits available one for Chapala only and one for all Mexico. Yes, I was told these were the steps and with two sets of docs we got two permits for our two cars. timjwilson
Is there a mandatory expiry attached to these permits. I gave up using them in Canada because of having to periodically re-apply. This does not make sense for a congenital permanent disability.
#HarryB
If the doctor says permanent,it is permanent!

canmex87
We went today. You have to be there as you have to sign for the permit. The cost is 20 pesos. Its only for the Municipality of Chapala. There is no expiry date on the permit. There has not been a great demand for these permits as mine is number 18. #HarryB
there will be when the fines start. There has been a delay due to the two deaths in Delegado Juan Ramon's family.
