Mainecoons
Another related question. How do you use the tag? Hold it up at the entry to the toll booth marked for electronic? Fasten it using the sticky tabs and holder to your windshield? I am told thing thing is location sensitive.
John Shrall
Use Velcro and affix it to the windshield. The instructions show you where to place it. On a couple of occasions the sensor didn't pick up the device but it was easy to take it off and hand it to the toll booth person. This is the Portatíl device that comes off the windshield. The Calcomanía can only be scraped off. The tags don't work on the Jala-Compostela bypass at this time. Protesters have taken over the booths and demand money to pass. The government doesn't seem to be inclined to kick them out.
Mostlylost
Don't mount it close to a rearview mirror with auto dim sensor or a dashboard camera, or other toll tag. My portatil is mounted at the edge of the sun band directly in front of the driver. Has never failed to work. My Texas tag is behind the RV mirror far enough away. Mostlylost
The OXXO in Plaza Interlago had 6 portatil models in the display case today. Price is $
Mainecoons
Two more minor Toll Tag questions: 1. How do you get your receipt or do you not need it? 2. Is there a front and back of the Portatil tag? Which side should face forward if any?

The blank side attaches to the velcro with the side containing writing and the bar code is inside. If you ever have to take it off for a scan they use the bar code. If needed for the insurance provided by the toll road you show the charge on your app.

Mainecoons
Just an update on our use of the Toll tag between Ajijic and Santa Teresa NM traveling by way of Aguascalientes, Torreon, Chihuahua and the border. Basically worked great until we got north of Aguascalientes, then very hit and miss from there. One toll on the Zacatecas bypass worked, one did not. Torreon bypass worked great. Did not work north of Torreon to Jimenez and then not north of Jimenez to Chihuahua. Worked on one of two tolls on Chihuahua bypass and the first tool booth north of Chihuahua. Did not work on the toll booth south of Juarez or the toll both on the bypass to Santa Teresa.
Mostlylost
Sorry to hear your tag was hit & miss. Did you see others with tags having problems at the same booths? Were they able to scan it for you so you didn't need cash? Since I switched to the portatil it has never failed on the Chapala to Laredo via SLP route. Mainecoons
No,they wouldn't scan. I think Chihuahua is really not on board at this point in time.
