Great News!  I just received a letter from the US Treasury, with the Sharpie Signature -  you know the one...  It says I will be getting a check/debit card - not specifying which.  Has anyone received either of these yet?  If so, how do you deal with the debit card?  I could deposit a check in my local peso account.  Can you use the debit card locally?  I live here full time, not going up north.  I paid $4 in taxes last year so I guess they couldn't use the bank info on my tax return to just wire it to me.   Gracias for any meaningful and helpful information.

If those checks were mailed to Mexico some of you might get it and some of you might not.

About 2010 or so one of my husband pensions decided they could no longer deposit his pension check into his US bank account because he might be committing fraud and using offshore funds. Hahahahaha laugable but that was their stance with FACTA, along with that accusation was their buy in to Medicare for retirees over 65 so they didn't have to provide private medical insurance to their retirees. They cut a deal with Medicare and paid for it a huge amount and now they pay the monthly fees.  However since we were out of the country and Medicare couldn't service us they had to leave us on the private Medical Mutual coverage we'd been provided for 40 years. BUT and it's a big BUT we couldn't keep the Medical insurance coverage if we had a US address on his file.  And so to satisfy the no auto deposit for the remote possibiity of offshore hoarding pension bucks, and to satisfy the no foreign address for the medical insurance the pension decided to send us paper checks in the mail - monthly to Mexico.

They mailed checks for 4 months. None arrived.  The replacement check process was onerous.  File in person a loss report with the US postal service, file a report with the local police, send all those reports and a notarized special form stating the loss and a letter from our bank stating they hadn't had that check presented for deposit in the past 90 days....for each missing check.  I explain that I cannot meet those requirements.  I explain why, where we are, how the mail works here, what the police and ministerial publico and what an abagado or notario could do...no, all in English all by US people.  The Consulate does not assist in these issues. I was furious.  So we waited figuring maybe one would get thru and we were planning a US trip soon.

Well I found a comment section on a sub-area of the pensions website and decided to go full on Bitch-mode about this issue.  I took photos of the Ajijic post office, Open garage door, post office boxes with handwritten numbers and card board flaps, two motorcycles and a bike.  The guys were nice and knew I had been watching for these checks, obviously checks with glassine windows and no extra covering on the check amount.  They posed for photos behind their "cash box" and they told me how much they are paid.  I posted those post office photos, a photo from across the Carreterra and up and down the Carreterra and then a few photos of neighborhoods near by and the Ajijic and Chapala police stations.  I related the average daily wage etc... And I told them that there was now almost $30,000 US floating thru the Mexico postal system which we and the pension should be sure was not going to reach us in Ajijic.  I also reminded them that they were not relieved of the responsibility of paying my husband the pension and that should they continue to send monthly paper check to a country where one check was the equivalent of a years salary they would be paying that money twice. The pension fund decided to solve it immediately by allowing us to have a bank branch manager in the US receive the pension check and deposit it.  In 8 years it has been lost 3 times. But basically the problem was solved.  And yes, 4 of the 6 missing pension check were cashed within 3 weeks of having been sent.  Someone, somewhere, US or MX postal system was waiting every month for their lotto win!   I would guess the same for those stimulus checks.

We expect our Stimulus checks have been sent to our Mexico address since that is where until March 15th we were and I sent in a change of address form to the IRS on March 10th.  But they shut everything down soon after and work from home so I suppose address changes are the last thing on their mind and more than likely didn't make the deadline to effect the mailing.

I am not willing to fuss at the IRS about possible missing checks.  I have hired a local US Tax person to do it for us.  If your check has not arrived I suggest you get a  professional to track it down.

We received our stimulus check via Mexico Post last week and "the letter" the next day. Receiving the check is the first step, but then you have to figure out where and how to deposit it. I have a CapOne 360 account and the bank app, but they do not allow mobile deposits outside of the US. We finally worked out a way to deposit, but it wasn't easy! Good luck in receiving your check.

Good news.  I am spending my Stimulus $$ on the Mexican people who don't have enough to eat.   And virtually no social services to help them as up north.

Recently received an unexpected US government check by mail (not the stimulus check).   Was able to deposit through app with a credit union.  Credit unions don't seem to care where you live; at least neither of ours do.  OTOH, when I tried to use app for a US bank, got an immediate message saying, no deposits allowed from the country you are in.

VPN no longer works for CapOne 360. Worked for me in the past, but not now.

Change VPN providers. I deposited my stimulus check with CapOne and IPVanish.

I was in the same boat. No US bank account and my Bancomer bank won't cash Treasury checks. I now have a US bank account even though I'm not a US resident. If interested, I'll tell you how to do it.
