Thank you for causing confusion. Do you expect me to read every local paper now ? ☹️ (you would do so much better on TOB).

What part of the local population taking precautions so they don't get infected by the weekenders, and the weekenders being counted in the Guadalajara stats if they are infected, eludes you?  Sin

I do not know how to say what I said any simpler. Sorry you don’t understand.

"It is not as simple as it sounds" isn't very clear. Sorry you can't be bothered to explain.

One of my friends who was cured was, as I mentioned, part of a study group, so she got the treatment for free. And the other was covered under his Canadian medical. But I know that otherwise it can be very expensive.

It is as clear as your post: “There is a cure for Hep C now. It isn't a vaccine, it is medication. I know 2 people who had Hep C for decades, who were totally cured.” With no link to more information it was overly simplified. The link I provided, if read, makes clear how it is not as simple as it sounds.

We know that wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from infection. Public health authorities define a significant exposure to Covid-19 as face-to-face contact within 6 feet with a patient with symptomatic Covid-19 that is sustained for at least a few minutes (and some say more than 10 minutes or even 30 minutes). The chance of catching Covid-19 from a passing interaction in a public space is therefore minimal. In many cases, the desire for widespread masking is a reflexive reaction to anxiety over the pandemic.

The article was published on April 1, 2020. The authors followed up with an editorial comment on June 3, 2020 stressing that article's emphasis on "passing encounters in public spaces, not sustained interactions within closed environments". It begins with "We understand that some people are citing our Perspective article (published on April 1 at NEJM.org)1 as support for discrediting widespread masking. In truth, the intent of our article was to push for more masking, not less. " and concludes with "We therefore strongly support the calls of public health agencies for all people to wear masks when circumstances compel them to be within 6 ft of others for sustained periods."

The real key here is social distancing.  Health professionals are almost forced to be within 6 feet of others for sustained periods.  The rest of us are not.

Particularly when I see so many masks of ineffectual materials not worn properly out there I don't set much confidence in that measure.  I focus on keeping my distance and making that considerably more than 6 feet, more like twice that.

Very true, bmh.  I only purchase masks that are advertised as N95 or better. What I do not know is if what I am buying will really meet these N95 standards the sellesr claim they do..

"We all could hasten this process by continue to practice good hygiene. Dra. Laurie Ann Ximénez-Fyvie, Jefe delLaboratorio de Genética Molecular at UNAM has stated that contagion could be reduced by (up to) 60% if 9 out of 10 people wear masks (whre appropriate)"

I prefer consensus expert opinions to opinions derived from stubborn political viewpoints.
