I doubt it. This virus attacks blood vessels and it is already mutating. People who tested positive for the virus lose immunity a few months later. This might be our Andromeda Strain.

There are a number of possible vaccines in the pipeline. Oxford sounds especially promising but I think the Aussies have one as well plus others all over the world. The one problem is determining the length and consistency of the immunity. If it is only 6 months, is it worth vaccinating millions of people? Will there be a better vaccine if we are patient? The ONLY way to tell for sure is time and that means at least a year after human trials start. A safe, working vaccine in October is totally unrealistic IMHO.

The Vaccines mentioned are all mRNA based..The drug companies have worked on these mRNA vaccines  for various diseases for MANY YEARS without any mRNA vaccine being successful. There are several other Pharma's that are utilizing DNA based products or other methods..To date NONE have shown lasting effectiveness or long term human tolerance...So much $$$$ is on the table for the successful candidate that one has to be careful of the publicity being spouted on a daily basis...None are near demonstrating human  viability..Oxford was just caught injecting the wrong dosage level of their vaccine in a large # of their human test subjects...A lot of pharma bullshit being flouted..

They have never developed a vaccine by for other coronavirus and this one is mutating fast, so don't bet money on a vaccine ever being found. Developing a natural immunity after being exposed to it like with other viruses appears to be doubtful.

Your response got me interested in learning about vaccine types. Any idea why drug companies are focused on experimental methods (mRNA and DNA methods) that are yet to be proven, instead of attempting to create a vaccine with weakened, dead or inactivated forms of the virus? According to my limited reading, no RNA or DNA vaccines are currently approved for human use, but some DNA vaccines are available for veterinary use.

There are well known virus strains for which no vaccine yet exists.  To assume a viable, affordable. and widely available vaccine is just around the corner is perhaps premature.  To assume the world can stay in lock down until then is also not realistic.  Deaths from Covid 19 can easily be counted.  Increases in poverty, hunger, crime, depression, suicide, domestic violence, substance abuse, etc. as a result of prolonged isolation are not so easily measured but can be just as deadly.  I really hope a miraculous discovery comes soon that lets the world begin to heal but my short term plans are to continue doing what I can do to keep safe, do constructive work, and help others.  Those are things I can sort of control.  That might be all any of us can do in the future.  Alan

here is a good article - note the assumptions are "if everything goes well"   and right now there are not a lot of reasons to think everything will go well.

The first doses of an approved Covid vaccine will go to health care workers and residents and employees of long-term care facilities, then essential public servants like police officers, firefighters and transit workers as well as workers in food processing plants. Not until there are hundreds of millions of doses available — sometime in 2021 if all goes well — will the vaccine be offered to the general public.

Adequate protection against Covid-19 is expected to require two doses of vaccine. Thus, if the entire country were to be immunized, more than 600 million doses of vaccine would have to be manufactured.

IMO, first doses will go to those who will pay "any price" for it; Bill Gates, Warren Buffet types. Also to politicians and friends of people with political influence. This is IMO, a reality. Then will come the countries who will pay the most for the "first" batch.

Who would want to be first?  Not me.  Lots of different types of this virus not even sure one vaccine will work for all. Remember folks we are all talking before we really know and that includes the drug companies.

Don't hold your breath........ Humanity will adapt, or possibly become extinct, as a viral pandemic is high on the list of possible causes of extinction. Nothing new there.
