I didn't want to hijack the other post about A/C so I'll post my own topic.

I would caution anyone looking at mini-splits to think twice about LG models. While they perform well, should there be a problem understand that there are no replacement parts in Mexico. Fans, boards and coils all come from China. I don't have any A/C in Ajijic but have 5 units at a house on the Pacific coast. I had to toss 2 LG units when the coils sprung leaks and the estimated time for a replacement  part was 6 weeks.

Life expectancy should be much better in Ajijic than on the coast where one deals with heat, humidity and salt air but when buying something new, availability of replacement parts should be a consideration.

Same goes for Frigidaire appliances. No parts available in Mexico. GE/Mabe, yes. Samsung, only from a certified repair store of which there are none here. Jualberto gave me that bad news when I called him about a Samsung refrigerator problem.

Not our experience with our Frigidaire Gallery French-door fridge. I needed a new icemaker and also new rubber stripping around the freezer compartment (separate events) and both sets of parts were ordered and delivered by a Frigidaire repair specialist from Guadalajara. The fridge was purchased a few years ago at Tío Sam and they gave me the contact info for their rep/repair person, who only handles certain lines. (I did have to wait for the ice unit though, as they were out of stock. I checked the parts and it was slightly cheaper here than ordering in US and bringing down myself.)

The motherboard on my Samsung washing machine fried a couple years ago. The technician who the Samsung distributor in PV uses and who gave me hos name, looked it over, told me it needed a new motherboard. Said it would take a month to get one. After a month, he told me that they weren't available anywhere in Mexico.

I looked on Mercado Libre and found a guy with a an appliance store in Mazatlan who had lots- brand new, in the box. Put the money in his account and had it in 2 days, and popped it in myself.

Don't believe everything you're told. Sometimes you have to do the research yourself.
