LATEST CV DEATH TOLLS IN MEXICO BY STATE MAP

Recommended Posts

Please note that Jalisco has roughly the same amount of deaths as Yucatan, Guanajuato, and Oaxaca, states I dearly love and would like to revisit.  That is in spite of the fact that Jalisco has a far greater population, with 2 major metropolises than any of these states with much lower populations.  Quintana Roo - Cancun - has more than double the number of deaths of Jalisco with 1 large metro area, but with lots of foreign tourists.  Again, I say kudos to Alfaro and Moy Anaya for keeping us relatively safe here at lakeside.  Which is not to recommend getting complacent.

Official government numbers are under counted in all states by up to 7 times or more. Deaths also are under counted in Mexico. Testing is dismal. You had best take precautions and not rely on any government statistics now to purposely make it seem not as widespread and deadly as it really is. Wait until the curve actually starts to level off and go down by about July to loosen up a bit.

"In cities across Mexico, morgues are full, funeral homes are jammed and crowded hospitals are turning patients away.

“My father is in a black bag in the back of that brown hearse,” said Gabriela Jacomé, a 43-year-old house cleaner waiting outside the San Nicolás Tolentino cemetery in Mexico City on a recent morning.

Vehicles carrying COVID-19 victims were gridlocked at the entrance along a main drag marked with yellow signs warning: “High risk of contagion!”

"We have to wait outside for hours to get in to pay final respects,” Jacomé said.

Such scenes are difficult to square with the country's official death toll: 4,767 as of Friday.

Government authorities have long acknowledged that many deaths are not counted because they have not been confirmed by testing, and just how many remains a mystery.

There are clues. The Los Angeles Times reviewed 120 death certificates provided by a worker at a crematorium in the northern border city of Ciudad Juárez.

A total of 63 listed "probable COVID-19" as the cause of death, and another 30 named pneumonia or other respiratory ailments often associated with coronavirus patients.

Only 12 listed COVID-19 as the confirmed cause, meaning that only those cases would become part of the official total — a possible undercount of 93 deaths.

The widespread belief that Mexico's official death toll is artificially low — and the inability of the government to correct it — have become fodder for critics of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador as the country of more than 120 million begins to reopen its economy. He recently complained: "They suggest we are hiding the dead.""

Meanwhile, a large segment of the population both here in Mexico and NOB claim that the two governments are purposely inflating death totals in order to make the pandemic seem more serious than it is. What would these governments gain by inflating these figures? Absolutamente nada!

Nearly a quarter of the people Colorado said died from coronavirus don’t have COVID-19 on their death certificate

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment announced a change to how it tallies coronavirus deaths amid complaints that it inflated numbers

And the rest of the story... The Colorado Dept of Public Health has been including all deaths related to COVI-19 in one group. They are now breaking it down by deaths 'among causes' and deaths 'due to'.

A State Rep got his knickers in a knot because the cause of death wasn't specifically listed as COVID-19. Understand that the (R)s in Colorado are a bit over the top. I did some lobbying at the Colorado legislature in my misspent youth. An old friend, who had been a very conservative State Senator, and I had a drink a few years back and he told me he'd gone down to the legislature to visit. He was appalled. He said those people aren't anything like we were. You can't even reason with them... So take it with a big grain of salt.

Those were deaths where COVID-19 was an underlying cause not the main cause. The actual count is higher because they have found a significant spike in deaths at home over previous years. Some of those were undoubtedly due to fear of going to the hospital or overcrowding. Some are almost certainly due to COVID-19 but were untested so can't be counted.
