Flying in from the USA

Recommended Posts

We need to fly my wife's daughter here from North Carolina to care for her while I am in the hospital.  Is the Guad airport allowing flights in from the USA now?  If the road blocks are still up, is she going to have a problem getting to Ajijic, as she has no I.D. with a local address?  Also, can anyone recommend a decent BnB for her to stay at while in quarantine here.

it is illegal for GDL to prohibit flights from anywhere. The governor asked and the federal government said absolutely not.

As to flights, try searching on kayak.com for the dates in question.

As to her ability to get a tourist visa(FMM)??? The no tourism restriction between Mexico & the USA was set to expire next week, however there is  talk of extending it.

Entering Ajijic can be done early in the morning or after 10pm at night. Sanitary filters about the same hours.

You could scan and send her a copy of your CFE bill to prove the address that she will be staying at with her parents once she's done quarantining, and if she books an Airbnb or something, she'll get a receipt with the address on it. You might even get someone who's fluent in Spanish to write a letter outlining her purpose in coming and scan and send that to her as well. She could print all that stuff out and have it with her just in case. Mexican bureaucrats love paper, the more the better. Of course, Murphy's Law, if you are armed with all that, they'll never ask, but better to have as much documentation as possible, just in case. 🙂

Not helpful. The OP seems to have a very valid reason why the daughter needs to come.

There never was any official restrictions for non essential travel between Canada, the US or Mexico with air travel. It was only for crossing by land and that agreement ends on this Wed. May 20th. between the 3 countries. Mexico's effort at land crossings was reported as being half-assed.

https://mx.usembassy.gov/wha-press-guidance/

"These restrictions are temporary and went into effect on March 21, 2020. They will remain in effect through 11:59 pm on May 19, 2020.  This decision has been coordinated with the Governments of Mexico and Canada.

The United States is coordinating closely with Canada and Mexico to protect our citizens while minimizing adverse economic impacts.

Q&A

Q:  What will this mean for airline travel and other travel across the border?

A:  This action does not apply to air, rail, or sea travel at this time, but does apply to commuter rail and ferry travel."

Maybe there was never official restrictions for non essential travel between, Canada the US, and Mexico but there were and still are actual restrictions that made travel difficult to impossible. The May 20th dead line has been extended a month.

Could you share those 'restrictions' with us?

The airlines books your ticket and you pay for it. Then the Mexican (state or Federal government?) order the trip cancelled. You are left looking for other means of transportation and getting your money back. It happens to me and many others are reporting the same.

Trudeau closed the Canadian/US border to all but essential travel on March 21 and just extended it to June 21. And if you enter Canada, you have to prove you have a place to quarantine for 14 days or you are taken to a govt. quarantine facility.

Remember, there is a vast difference between the right and the power. The local government may not have the right to do something, like stopping people from entering certain area, but they do have the power to do it. And that power can be expressed by officers with Badges and guns. You definitely don't want to argue with these people.
