CORONA VIRUS IN REST OF LATIN AMERICA

Recommended Posts

As the debate continues about opening early to save the economy or maintain the current and necessary precautions, it seems to me that those who favor "the economy" over saving human lives simply are not well informed about the realities of the scourge of CV.  Many still underestimate its effects on the population.  This article details what is happening in many other Latin American countries who are faring worse than Mexico or the USA and Canada.

There was only this significant little blurb about Mexico:  The Mexican government has not reported hundreds, possibly thousands, of deaths from the coronavirus in Mexico City, obscuring the toll of the epidemic, according to officials and confidential data.

It has also been said that death counts in the USA are misleadingly low because many die at home  and are not officially counted as CV deaths.  Plus, there is not enough testing done to get really accurate figures on cases or deaths.  A few desire to keep those public numbers low to maintain a false optimism among the uninformed.  False optimism in the face of a very real, present, and direct danger is not a smart or strong idea.

Much easier for those of us who no longer need to work to say err on the side of caution. Much easier for those who will starve if they don't work to say let me give it a go. I'm willing to take the risk.

Two sides to every coin.

Our artisan family from Oaxaca is reporting much the same thing.  Orders from the February Enart are largely cancelled or delayed.  We are trying to assist with sales into the U.S. but it is slow going.

They were most likely going to pull one or all of the three girls out of college at Iteso but we took over their full support to keep them in school.

For them the cure is definitely worse than the disease.
