Alcohol Poisonings

you do not lose your sight with covid, the symptoms described are typical of wood alcohol poisoning.

Yes, most likely wood alcohol (methanol) not ethanol (grain).  Many dorm parties in the 70s with Everclear, high octane ethanol, grain alcohol.  Nobody died despite a lot of over drinking.

In 2018-2019 when there were deaths from alcohol at Mexican resorts (and Costa Rica), it was due to methanol used in the adulterated beverages.

Had a friend die in an Islamic country from alcohol poisoning after drinking a homemade "punch" at a party.  It was an awful end, the pain is far worse than most ways to die.

Sorry folks, it wasn't methanol. Don't blame the distiller and his possible flawed technique. The adulterant was isopropyl alcohol. That industrial alcohol is in no way possible in the ethanol process.

This incident was a deliberate criminal act, so stupid that it reflects the intelligence of the actor.

Isopropyl...you'd think it'd stink so bad no one could ingest it.  Where'd you get the info that this is what it is.

“The Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks of the State of Jalisco also began investigations regarding the product to determine its composition,” said in a statement.

Investigations show the victims were residents of the town of Ajijic, in the municipality of Chapala, all known to each other. It appears that the alcohol ingested was bought in bulk.

The Jalisco Health Secretariat identified that most of the cases are associated with the consumption of 96 proof cane alcohol, whose production was adulterated with methyl alcohol (methanol).
