I wonder for Mexico, which depends so much on tourism, just how long that will take.  Before all this started I think tourism was either the #2 or #3 biggest part of the Mexican economy.  Yet I don't see how you make travel and hanging out in great numbers in huge tourist hotels safe in the absence of a vaccine.

Took a war to revive the economy from the Great Depression.

Terrible site. No one should be grading countries at this point. It is still too early. Did you know that the data on the 1919-20 Spanish Flu is still so disputed that the numbers of cases and deaths include an order or magnitude range (each)?  That site lists China as a place "winning" when no responsible group accepts the Chinese data on total number of cases or deaths. That site also says "massive testing" is one of the keys to "winning," yet winners like South Korea and Taiwan are not doing massive testing. If you want good coronavirus coverage, stick with these sites:

For the raw numbers: Johns Hopkins: https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6

For visualization, Financial Times: https://www.ft.com/content/a26fbf7e-48f8-11ea-aeb3-955839e06441

For comparisons, Worldometer: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

For testing, Our World in Data: https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus-testing

Good read here:

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2020/05/11/coronavirus-expert-michael-osterholm-warns-virus-spread-far-from-over/3108333001/

A classic Catch-22?

Dose of realism.

Quote

Osterholm said only an effective vaccine can slow the virus before a large enough segment of the population becomes infected and develops some level of immunity. Even if a vaccine works, Osterholm said, it's unknown whether it would be durable enough to confer long-lasting protection from SARS CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

Most states are easing stay-at-home orders though patchwork measures that vary from one to the next. Georgia began opening in late April amid national criticism, allowing tattoo parlors, bowling alleys and hair and nail salons to reopen with restrictions. California has taken a slower, phased approach, allowing some retailers and manufacturers considered low-risk to resume operations.

Governors worry about the economic harm social distancing measures have caused with shuttered businesses and the growing ranks of jobless Americans. Unemployment has reached 15% nationwide, and a Trump administration economic adviser warned unemployment could soon reach 20%.

Osterholm acknowledges that the nation "can't lock down for 18 months" and said political and business leaders need to find a way to resume activities while adapting to a virus that won't soon disappear. He doesn't believe there has been enough of a frank assessment on the economic harm the virus will cause over coming months and its disruption to international supply chains.

"We all have to confront the fact there’s not a magic bullet, short of a vaccine, that’s going to make this go away," he said.  "We’re going to be living with it. And we’re not having that discussion at all."

The only accurate way to count Covid19 fatalities since they are being so miss allocated will be when it is all over. Then you look at the death toll last couple of years and average. Then subtract these previous death numbers from the total 2010 death toll and you can figure the increase is the actual Covid19 total. The government is paying a physician to label a death as CVD. Then look at how many covid 19 deaths per capita around the world. This will give you a real answer without the politics. I certainly think it has been too many deaths.

Whether posting as himself or as a mod, only one person is allowed a political opinion here. The rest of us are "too angry" to be allowed opinions.

Sad.

It seems to me you are way off the mark. The majority of political comments posted  here, which should not be allowed in the first place, are anti Trump. Interestingly many are from Canadians. Almost all political remarks posted here, no matter which side they favor, have 2 things in common; they are both mean spirited and simplistic.

The moderators should aggressively start removing all political post. Just my thought. Honk if you agree🤔

This is a joke.  The haters here are constantly sticking their opinion into every thread they can.  What you really don't like is when someone talks back.

Here's your real problem.

We have been.  They don't give up easily.  I suspect the reason they aren't satisfied with TOB is that they long since drove off anyone who differed from the group narrative there.  The boredom must have set in.

Honk and closed.

Don't forget to rush right over to TOB and whine about this too.  :D
