MtnMama
If you don't want to make a long-term commitment, consider fostering a Ranch dog. We have lots of dogs right now since we haven't been able to fly dogs north to shelters as we usually do. If you'd like some canine companionship, and are willing to teach a dog some house manners, possibly including housebreaking, we may have a perfect dog for you. When you foster, you give the dog a little piece of your heart, and the dog is a better companion than when he arrived. I fostered NOB and here as well. I have had only 2 'Foster Failures' where the dog stayed and never left. All the other times they went to new forever homes and I bid them a fond farewell.
