Mainecoons
I suspect under count is the general situation world wide in varying degrees. OTOH this strengthens the case that CV isn't just another flu as some suggest.
mudgirl
I would imagine there are undercounts on all contagious diseases. The majority of people who get influenza don't run off to the doctor to get tested. They either feel lousy enough to call in sick and stay in bed for a day or two, or they don't feel all that bad, pop a tylenol and some other medication to lessen the symptoms, and carry on. I had chicken pox and measles as a child, as did most of us. So did my 3 daughters. I don't recall my parents taking me to the doctor, and I didn't take my girls- all parents knew what chicken pox and measles looked like and there wasn't anything a doctor could do for it- you just had to ride it out.
Mainecoons
Very true and that is why one cannot assume the reported numbers are representative of the population as a whole.
