2 ways to look at this (or more, probably)

Hotel now has 250, Guests have 30, and Bellhop has 20, so that totals 300.      Or as this student of accounting does it:

Wrong math   Your scenario has a total of $279.99 not $280. How did each pay $100-$10=$90 become $83.33?

There is a correct answer just not that one.

More simply:  each paid 90dls x 3= 270dls

270= 250 for hotel and 20 forbellhop.

 Correct

               $10 (inside Guest 1 pocket)
               $10 (inside Guest 2 pocket)
              $10 (inside Guest  3pocket)
              $20 (inside bellhop's pocket)
              $250 (hotel cash register)

             =$300

I already posted that in my post above, just worded differently than you.

Okay, here's another riddle for you. If you already know this one, maybe not blurt it out right away. Let people strain their brains.

You find yourself in a situation where you are presented with a door to life and a door to death.

There is one guard in front of each door.

One guard always lies. One guard always tells the truth.

You don't know which door is which, nor which guard is the liar or truth teller.

You are allowed only one question to ask of only one guard in order to determine which door is which.

What is the question?

The question is;   What would the other guard tell me if I asked him which was the door to life?

Then choose the opposite door.

Why.. The guard that must lie will tell you the wrong door. The the guard that must be truthful will tell you what the liar will tell you.... which is the wrong door.

That is why I said you were correct!  I posted the wording I was shown in High School

I had a math teacher in HS tell the following joke:

There are three types of people in this world,

Those who can do math,

AND

Those who can't

A young boy enters a barber shop and the barber whispers to his customer, “This is the dumbest kid in the world. Watch while I prove it to you.”

The barber puts a  dollar bill in one hand and two quarters in the other.

He calls the boy over and asks, “Which one do you want son?”

The boy takes the quarters and leaves the dollar.

“What did I tell you,” said the barber. “That kid never learns.”

Later, the customer leaves and sees the same boy coming out of the ice cream store and says, “Hey son, may I ask you a question?”

“Why did you take the quarters instead of the dollar bill?”

The boy licked his cone and replied, “ Because the day I take the dollar, the game’s over.”
