Huge Developement?

Recommended Posts

Up the mountain above Lourdes. I kept hearing those big backhoe jack hammers they are using on the Hidalgo road mess long after they were finished within my hearing range. So yesterday, while I was inspecting the work on the Calle Mister Crowe side of our house, I looked up and was shocked to see a many meters high stone retaining wall and those jack hammers working on a new road going up from east to west. Only a developer would go to that kind of expense, probably to build something like housing/condos/and-or?. Nobody else noticed this?

happyjillin , where is Calle Mister Crowe?

About 200 feet west of Delicias Restaurant and down the hill from Hotel Monte Carlo. I have said many times how google is not the be all and end all for accurate info on antiques in my antique FB  groups. the google link has spelled Crowe incorrectly as Crow  And also hugely misnamed Abarrotes Perales on my opposite corner.

This is old news to those of us who live in the Lourdes area (the French Quarter of Chapala - Lourdes, Monte Carlo, Niza, Marseilles, etc.).Very interesting that they have torn down the mountainside below and very close to homes, most of them new, some still under construction, that sit on top of the ridge above this development in progress. A couple of directional observations: The development is not above Lourdes (the street) but rather east of Lourdes, and Mr. Crowe runs up the hillside from the carretera about a half block east of the Monte Carlo Hotel complex. Mr.Crowe dead ends in steps climbing up to Niza.

Hey I've lived on this street for 14 years and we ain't only 1/2 block from the Monte Carlo and this new development is easily seen by me. Mr. Crowe is in the Barrio  which is more than one street I don't need sombody telling me about my barrio who knows diddly squat if in fact you even live in this barrio.

Isn't that the area where that grand senior facility complex  was supposed to be a couple of years ago?

Not sure if it was a senior facility but as I recall the "plan" showed 3 large towers...or not...it must take a lot of balls (or drug money?) to commence any large project to day given the uncertainty and the dire economic situation

The correct name is Hotel Villa Montecarlo

In times of uncertainty and dire economic situations is the time people with balls make money.  With the stock market valuations being so low there is a lot of money to be made in the market for the ones brave enough to do it..                   By the time that development is built the economic situation should have stabilized and the developer will make a lot of money... I applaud him for having the balls to do it..

This development broke ground in mid August 2019, 6 plus months before the current uncertain economic times, and certainly is intended to take advantage of the recent influx of newcomers to Lakeside. There is/was lots of solid rock underlying the mountainside which has been gradually chipped out to supply the materials for the extensive stone walls that now encase the development. The development fronts on Niza, runs up the mountainside from Niza, and along Niza for several blocks. Several other developments have been built in this same area in recent years, primarily utilized as weekend/vacation 2nd homes for wealthier tapitos, but nothing close to this in magnitude. The street Niza is already inadequate to handle it’s current traffic load, and, as with many streets in Ajijic, only one car can pass through certain stretches of Niza at a time.

Johanson, Chapala has changed a lot since you last visited. Coppel is now a casino and I lost track of the number of strip clubs on the main drag.😁

Are the strip clubs still open as an essential service?  At my age they should be considered thus.  :D

LOL, this post gave me a great chuckle, thanks!
