Heard a Rainbird Last Night

What does a rainbird's call sound like?

There's no such thing as a rainbird (but for some reason that's what expats Lakeside call them, never heard that anywhere else, even in other expat enclaves), they aren't birds, they are insects- cicadas, therefore they have no "call". Sounds like a siren.

"They typically live in trees, feeding on watery sap from xylem tissue and laying their eggs in a slit in the bark. Most cicadas are cryptic. The vast majority of species are active during the day as adults, with some calling at dawn or dusk."

"Cicadas are large insects made conspicuous by the courtship calls of the males."

"Cicadas call from varying heights on trees. Where multiple species occur, the species may use different heights and timing of calling. While the vast majority of cicadas call from above the ground..."

I do agree though that they aren't birds.

A friend that lives on the south side of the lake in Tuxcueca has had rain a few times in the last week. She says that is very unusual for this time of the year but they have had actual rain on 3 different days when we had lots of wind on the north side over the last 10 day period. Don't know if they heard any cicadas or not:/

Remember that most local webpages state the following:

weather data that follows this text is taken from observations at Guadalajara airport (MMGL). Ajijic is usually 5 degrees warmer at night and 5 degrees cooler during the day. This is because of our proximity to the lake.
