elevator
I know about Home Depot. Also saw a few at hardware store in Chapala. Anyone know of any other places?

HoneyBee
Mercado Libre as hundreds listed. Just check the voltage and power output requirements. They also have some which are noise insulated.
Ferret
And if you want to use it for sensitive electronic equipment like TV or computer, make sure that you get one with an inverter... like the Honda 2000i (the i is for inverter). We bought ours in San Miguel... at the Honda motorcycle store. https://www.google.com.mx/search?source=hp&ei=I0VtXtCWCKKltgXO77zIDw&q=honda+eu2000i&oq=Honda+EU&gs_l=psy-ab.1.2.0l10.1089.7231..46142...0.0..0.103.632.7j1......0....1..gws-wiz.33Ub-W8wpmI

Kiko
Anyone know where a Honda service center is in Guadalajara that can service their generators?
Ferret
Here's the website... scroll down for a toll free number to ask them directly who is a certified Honda service rep. for generators either in Guadalajara or here. Or check under concesionarios. https://www.honda.mx/productos-de-fuerza/modelos/index.php?categoria=generadores&modelo=eu-22i

Kiko
The cheaper generators that are oftentimes sold at the stores like Home Depot are super loud and annoying. Many are manufactured in China, so ..."Save once but buy twice." The Honda model mentioned in this thread is quiet and on eco mode it is super quiet. Very well engineered and reliable. timjwilson
I use an Onan 6500 watt diesel. Run through a circuit service. No issues with computers or TV. There are several professional generator outlets in Guadalajara. Google is your friend.
canmex87
We purchased a Generac generator from a local contractor, Americas Consulting. Here is the contact information. vetteforron
I own 3. 2000,3000,5000. The cheaper ones very noisy but a fraction of the costs. Are you just thinking of temporary service interruptions? Cheaper may be better. Costco, and Sam's have them also. A large diesel Onan would power your home for almost forever. I keep the large one at my nursing home. The small 2000 watt powers my frig. TV, Internet modem, and computer with power to spare. I think all homes should have one if just for the frig. also don't forget to have some gasoline available. I keep a 19 liter container available which I recycle with my ATV so gas is always fresh. Just things to ponder.
Ferret
More things to ponder: As vetteforron pointed out, gasoline does go "bad" after a few months so, you may want to look at propane generators. Propane does not go bad. If an electricity outage is widespread, the gasoline pumps at stations don't work either. There are also dual fuel generators (gas/propane). I no longer have the Honda EU2000i because it was sold with the house in San Pancho. Nor, quite frankly, do I have the shoulder power to start it any more. There are generators with push button electric piezo ignition however but they only seem to come in large sizes. I opted for a Jackery portable power station... this is the medium sized one that I bought. You charge it with a wall plug (to keep it ready for action) OR with a separate solar panel. There is a larger Jackery but NO solar panel option with that one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D29QNMJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 solar panel option: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FH85FW9/?coliid=ITAHLVN3C292Y&colid=9UO437NK1P8L&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it None of the Jackery options is powerful enough to operate a fridge or a water pump (yay tinaco!) but does operate my rechargeable fan and my rechargeable lights and tops up laptop computer and cell phones easily. It's all about options and your wants and needs. edited to add: Ooops. The brand new larger model DOES have a solar power option: https://www.amazon.com/Jackery-Portable-Explorer-Generator-Adventure/dp/B07SM5HBK1/ref=dp_ob_title_garden

Ferret
I edited my post. AND, if money is no object, here's a really big boy that can also be solar power operated... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0848PW7G5/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B0848PW7G5&pd_rd_w=7lywU&pf_rd_p=45a72588-80f7-4414-9851-786f6c16d42b&pd_rd_wg=R105K&pf_rd_r=64SJEDTS60FBKX02FRJ2&pd_rd_r=cf118331-4139-4599-b6de-c015b18431df&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzNTFER0FXNEdYUU1BJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNzM3NzkyQ0VIWVJNR0JCM0pVJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAzNDM2MTUxRUtMWjJOQ0E0N0dIJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfZGV0YWlsJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
johanson
When I installed my photovoltaic solar panels back in 2008, I also put in a battery powered electrical back up system. I have 8 deep cell golf cart batteries to provide power at night, should the CFE power go out. . In the daytime, of course, my power comes from my solar panels and or CFE. I have sufficient solar panels to also recharge these 8 golf cart batteries when necessary. Now, not everything is backed up. But yes a couple of lights are backed up in each room, and in the kitchen, also the refrigerator. In my office/bedroom I also have backup power for my satellite TV system to include the TV and for my computer. My only cost is that every 6 years or so, I have to replace by rather expensive golf cart batteries.
Eric Blair
You can go to Auto Zone or some other auto shop and get an additive to put in stored gasoline to make it last longer. IMO a good idea considering the "quality" of gasoline in Mexico.
gwynne
I have a big Briggs & Stratton for sale. It's just too big for me to handle alone so I bought a smaller one. Send me a message if interested.
