Yo1
I can't find a photo or identity of the bird I saw yesterday. It was high in a leafless jacaranda tree in a forest. Between the size of a robin and a crow with a tail much longer than it's body. The head and back were gray with a white throat and upper belly. The wings were rufous like a robin. The tail, when it flew, fanned out with a small point in the center of it's tail; certainly not a long trailing tail. Too far away to see any color on it head. I've looked under trogons and even stretched for parrots. Don't know if it's in transit or a local, although I've never seen a bird like this in 15 years. Help, por favor? TIA

mexbound
Maybe a "Squirrel Cuckoo" ?
Yo1
Mix a Squirrel Cuckoo and a Pheasant Cockoo and it might be close. It may have been a female and I don't have a description or picture. You are the closest, I think, mexbound. Thanks
WideSky
Did you try contacting lake chapala birders? https://chapalabirders.org/information According to their site there is a yellow billed cuckoo locally
Yo1
WideSky, I think you won the prize. I had a hard time finding a plate of the Yellow-Billed Cuckoo but I need to see it again to confirm. Thanks so much.

Yo1
Yup, Angus, that's it. I found some photos on the internet that are good like this one. But I haven't seen it again.
