Libramiento around Lagos de Morino

Has anyone taken this around Lagos in the last month?  It has been in shambles for years but I heard that they had done some work on it.  I usually just drive right through Lagos with ease but thought I'd see how the bypass is these days.... but don't want to do so at the peril of my vehicle!

All the bad patches were repaved about 6 months ago. Passed there last week and all is still good.  Also fewer topes.

Our experience as well last October.  Much better condition and faster.  However it wouldn't surprise me if it deteriorates rapidly due to the trucks on it.  Supposedly a real bypass is in the works.

Maybe the libramiento is better but the last stretch southbound from SLP as the cuota ends came close to bouncing the car off the road. One could get motion sickness trying to avoid the potholes. The northbound 2 lanes use the paved road but southbound dumps you back onto the old 2 lane that isn't any better than it was 15 years ago on my first car trip.

I too prefer the AGS route.

So, do you go SLP and return AGS?

I took the SLP route the last visit because I left from the Austin area and wanted to stop overnight in Matehuela. Normally I start from Dallas and stop in Saltillo then to Zacatecas and AGS. If that happens again I'll hang out longer in central Texas for a Saltillo overnight. Hwy 57 south of Saltillo also had lots of construction forcing southbound traffic to one lane of the northbound side. At times that also got ugly. Maybe they finished since last October. Probably not.

I just today drove up towards the border. I did not take the Lagos "bypass" as it is just too easy and quicker to go right through town. So I decided to not answer my own question I guess.

I usually go Aguas/Zacatecas/Saltillo/Monclova/Eagle Pass also but decided to check out 57 this trip as going to San Antonio. 57 does have a good bit of construction still but I did not find it too objectionable except for one spot where we sat, northbound, for 25 minutes for something that I never did see once we got started again. Google Maps warned me that it was coming but......

Yes, that bit is in terrible condition.  It was repaved but fell apart almost immediately.  I drive the left lane exclusively on that one, just a bit better.

Mexico needs to either lighten up the trucks or build better roads.

Maybe you already realized that the booth you paid this morning increased its rates, but it won't be the only one.

The Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT) reported that since Wednesday the tariffs for roads and bridges granted to the National Infrastructure Fund have been adjusted.

The increase applied by Federal Roads and Bridges (Capufe) will be 3% on average and, according to the SCT, the resources will be used to "meet the service requirements in the operation of the highway sections".

Which routes will increase the toll?

The measure will impact 41 national and international roads and bridges and will apply to all types of vehicles (motorcycles, trucks, cars and buses).

The ways in which the increase will be applied are:

Where can I check the new costs?

To consult the new rates and the sections in which the increase will be applied, Federal Roads and Bridges published a document with the information that can be consulted at http://ow.ly/hdT930qfmwU

AMLO promised not to raise taxes, but they are still going up.

AMLO raised the cuota fees last Feb. 2019 on many cuotas and just did it again.

"Capufe increases 4.8% road and bridge rates

02 FEBRUARY 2019 - 09:35 a.m.

In a statement it was detailed that the increase is equivalent to the inflation recorded, so that the service can be fulfilled

by WRITING

The government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced an increase of 4.8% to the roads of Federal Roads and Bridges, which began on February 1, 2019.

In a statement it was detailed that the increase is equivalent to the inflation recorded, so that it will be possible to comply with the service requirements in the administration of the highway sections.

“The resources collected by tolls of the highways integrated in the concession network are used to cover the expenses associated with the operation and conservation, as well as to provide financial support for the development of communications, transport, water, environment and tourism sectors, for the benefit of the population, ”cites the press release.

The infrastructure of Capufe, which depends on the Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT), is made up of 42 highways and 32 bridges, of which 12 are international.

The collection at the Cuernavaca-Acapulco highway house increased from 432 pesos to 452 pesos; Mexico Cuernavaca from 98 to 103 pesos.

The Mexico-Querétaro highway rose from 166 pesos to 174 pesos and the Mexico-Puebla from 165 to 173 pesos."

4.8 + 3 = 7.8 percent in one year.

That is what I have noticed driving the cuotas in SLP and other states. They are higher than ever.

Yeah sure.  LOL  :D

These roads and the ridiculous cost of energy here thanks to corrupt socialism are a big reason the Mexican economy is stagnant.  Labor is only 15 percent on average the cost of manufacturing now.  Transportation and energy, let alone the costs of insecurity and bad infrastructure tip the balance back to the developed world.

Appears to be the plan. Wasting billions of dollars on vindictive decissions that identify with those with anti neoliberal ideologies and to get their votes next time. The airport decission will waste 8.5 billion dollars and take about 20 years to pay off is just one of them.

Not trying to be political, but curious about you saying…. "corrupt socialism".... are you saying all socialism is corrupt or did you mean just this particular instance?

I know it.s a political question but you can answer without fear of banishment…...:D

You can PM me if you really want an answer (I'm skeptical).  In the mean time look around and see if you can find any successful large scale examples of real socialism and let me know your findings in your PM.  Try not to confuse the real thing with countries that are based on private economies but have a lot of social services as many do.

Being a somewhat socialist………...

Nah, I´m not that interested in your answer to go to that effort anymore than you would be interested in my look around/research/answer.  Countries do not have to have pure socialism to be effective with some socialism.  I´m a middle of the road, moderate socialist.

I think we can be agreeable about disagreeing and you can be skeptical as I was rhetorical.  ¡ Tenga un buen día !

I'll take the bait. Funny how there are NO people trying to sneak into socialist countries, Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, N Korea, Russia, China. Also NO people in the US who claim to be socialists moving out of the US to one of the aforementioned countries.

Patience Tom. They always say it's not socialism that doesn't work but rather the people who fail to implement it correctly. It's a work in progress I guess.

Well if you are convinced this is such a great idea it shouldn't require a lot of effort to share with us your list of countries where you think socialism works.  It appears to me you may be one of those folks who confuses countries that support extensive social services with a capitalistic economy are socialist.  They are not.  Even the ones with "soft" socialism rely on capitalism to fund it.  Interestingly all of them are small countries with highly homogeneous populations and as a result of immigrating drastically different people their social systems have come under great stress and already in some cases are having to be modified and cut back because there's not enough money to fund them when a much needier population is imported.

Socialism at its heart is the public ownership or virtual ownership via regimented regulation of the means of production.  That hasn't worked anywhere, including here (Pemex and CFE) and isn't going to because it goes against human nature and the basic flaw of government namely lack of accountability and consequences for failure.

I support anything that works to make better conditions for more people.  That is regulated capitalism hands down.  It has been proven over hundreds of years to be the least imperfect best system devised by man.  Perfection is reserved for God.

Well, I know for sure that socialism is not prevalent in...... Lagos de Morino, the previous subject of this thread!

No but it is a Pueblo Magico and the folks there are pretty social.  :D

I believe the new governor announced a new bypass was to be built.  Has anyone seen anything about the route?  I'm assuming it will be another toll road but could be worth it if it saves time and wear and tear.
