TEL-Mex calls to the US

Dab

Recommended Posts

Are there any restrictions on the 'free calls" to the US from my land line here?   I tried several times to

phone a friend in DC today and kept getting a fast busy signal.  The number called was to a cell phone.

Also, what's the deal on calling US  800 numbers?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

It depends on what plan you have. I have the 599 peso plan and get unlimited long distance calls to the U.S., Canada and anywhere within Mexico. When calling anywhere in Mexico that is long distance, the start is 01 + ten digit number of a cell or landline. When calling anywhere to the U.S. or Canada, the start is 001 + ten digit number of a cell or a landline.

800 numbers are different and was just discussed recently... I could look and find the thread but so could you... go back about 3 or 4 pages.

Dialing a US 800 Number from Mexico. To dial a US 800 number from Mexico, you will need to format the number differently. Replace the 800 prefix of the phone number with 001. After you have dialed 001, dial 880. Now, dial the rest of the phone number.  But note Mexico is not part of the US-Canadian 800 system. Telmex charges you for access to the  US-Canadian system. You pay an access toll to Telmex from your location too the border. From the border onward, it is toll-free.  Therefore you will be charged for any toll free number from Mexico to Canada.  Better to use a direct phone number to whatever business you are trying to contact.
