Handicapped parking petition update

The petition is on the edge of 800 signatures, We are shooting for a thousand. The Delegado Juan Ramon has been negotiating with the taxistas and they are on board for four spaces at the current location (across from Ajijic hotel), one space by the bank, and three spaces at the malecon.

The meeting with the village leaders was very cordial. We spoke about a number of issues. Everyone agrees the effort is worthless unless there is signage and the municipal transitos don't enforce the signs. Community Liaison Hector Espana will work on getting locally available handicap authorizations with a doctor's prescription. Papeleria stickers will NOT be honored. Prior notice will be given.

The community leaders were unaware that people who could walk the malecon might not be able to walk up hill to the plaza due to the altitude. We discussed potholes and the need for constant repair crews. Hector has a plan which he has discussed with the mayor. We discussed the loss of revenues to the Ajijic business owners due to lack of parking and the business owners practice of parking in front of their own businesses. The leaders were not aware that many  US and Canadian expats have no love for Walmart and only go there because there is available parking.

Juan Ramon is preparing to approach the municipal authorities and I will supply him with a copy of the petition to have in hand at that time.

How do you manage to lets bash WalMart into this project....Do we realy think people who park at Walmart are going to shop in Ajijic because of this proposed extra parking slots, which will probable be taken up with the 100's of Tapitos that come at the week end...urg

Again, all agree that the police on duty MUST monitor these spaces and call the municipal transito to ticket / tow offenders. Re Walmart... it isn't walmart, but, the police who need to enforce! BTW we are up to 808 signatures. Thanks to all who have signed . Please work on family and neighbors. This is a case where the community is united in wanting action from the municipal gov.
