cedros
Is Mexican vehicle insurance on the owner of the vehicle or the vehicle.
CHILLIN
It is an option either way. It costs a little more for insuring a vehicle, then upgrading to an option driver only insurance, which covers liability and minor medical. This type of insurance will allow you to drive any vehicle, but if I smash up your car, I am personally liable to you.
cedros
I thought it was on the vehicle. I didn't know there was an option.

Here is a liability policy that covers one in any vehicle: http://www.mexicoinsurance.com/drivers_license_liability

tomgates
As it would apply to rental cars, liability insurance is on the vehicle.
Eric Blair
I am told by Parker that I can get some sort of certificate that will cover my Mx plated and insured w/Parker, in the U.S. Does anyone know about this? Thanks
ea93105
It's on the vehicle in Mexico which I believe means you can have multiple DUI's and not pay any more. Socialistic system of sorts

Thanks Read the policy. Many Mexican insurance companies include liability coverage for the USA at no charge. If you don't understand then ask your agent. My Qualitas policy has a USA 1-800 number to call.

I guess my question should have been if the Mx. certificate will be honored in the U.S.
Mostlylost
If your policy says USA coverage then you have USA coverage to the limit stated. You should have the USA contact number. If not then get it from your agent. If stopped by police just hand them your Mexican reg & ins policy. They will look at them and hand them back. Kiko
My Qualitas policy has liability coverage in the states, however, it does not meet the required minimum threshold in Texas. My HDI policy has no liability coverage in the states. When stopped by a DPS trooper (Mexican-American) near Cotulla I gave him my Qualitas policy but he did not read, write or speak Spanish. After a lot of conversation he decided to let me go. I offered to call the 800 # in Mexico so he could talk with a bi-lingual Qualitas CSR but he declined. I was not stopped for speeding or any other infraction. He told me the reason I was stopped was my Jalisco plates. Guess he had a slow day. I am sure there are many policies issued in different states of the USA that don't meet other states requirements. I have never heard of that being a problem while driving state to state. Can you imagine someone from say North Dakota having a problem driving in California because their liability policy didn't meet the California requirements?
