bmh
It depends on the yarn.. wool is very expensive, it is all imported and hard to find, acrylic is available without a problem. You can buy wool from Mexico state but it is not merino wool .. nothing like the wool we know in the States or Europe. This said I work with a man who teaches natural dyes and weaving with wool. He buy the wool from Mexico where there is a supply of wool from Argentinan sheep. You can also buy from importers wool from AUstralia, Peru and India but it is all very expensive, Better bring your own..
Ferret
I think most people crochet with either cotton or acrylic blends. Here's Amazon Mexico choices... and notice the brand names ("marca") on the left side if your wife has a particular brand that she's fond of. https://www.amazon.com.mx/s?k=yarn&__mk_es_MX=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&ref=nb_sb_noss_1

mudgirl
Fabric stores like Parasina carry yarn. Whether it's the type of yarn your wife wants or not I couldn't say, she'd have to have a look.

cstone
The fabric district, Sta. Teresita in GDL, and a number of shops in historic Centro GDL have loads of yarn. That said, everytime I go to the US, I bring back a lot of yarn from JoAnn's where I can use a coupon to get better deals.
