I see in the December Ojo del Lago, Ajijic Dental is advertising implants for $7,000 pesos. The Dentist is Dra. Rosio Vidrio Galvez.  Asking if anyone has experience with implants and this Dentist.  Our long-time Dentist has recommended an implant but he doesn't offer this service.  Hoping to find someone who can provide an implant that's affordable but also good quality.

Looking forward to helpful feedback.

Cheers!

Dental Express 'does' crowns for 4,000 pesos AND Dr. Edgar uses the newest CAD equipment to 'size and fit' them, and then 'produce' the crown with his in-house lab machine. Crowns ready that or next day!  He did a 3-tooth bridge for me a couple of years ago with this technology and it is perfect.

I don't know whether or not Dr. Edgar actually does implants but a consultation with him would answer those questions.

P.S.  I have used ONLY Dr. Edgar at his Dental Express office and cannot attest to any other of the dentists there. I am scheduled for 2 crowns with him in January.

Here is a suggestion based on personal experience, that turned into a disaster that ended up costing well over $200,000.

IMO, look for training and experience before looking at price.

It takes considerable time to get a diploma for implants, I was told two years.

You should confirm that your "specialist" has the diploma. There are some "crash courses" where you go to Puerto Vallarta for a long weekend. Listen to some talks and view slides. You then get a certificate (not a diploma) and you can now say you are an expert in implants.

You can ask to see the diploma or check with the University of Guadalajara office in Ajijic. If the dentist has a diploma showing the specialized training, it will be registered thee.

Many thanks for this information, based on your personal experiences.  We'll stop by Dental Express and ask about the certification(s) and discuss options.

Cheers!

Just for the record, Dr. Edgar is not a Dra.......

I highly suggest that you talk directly with Dr Edgard.

Google Implants to learn about the different manufacturers..And then ask the dentist which brand he uses...  Dr Haro uses Straumann implants which are considered to best available, but they are very expensive. Dentists give you a better price by using Chinese or Korean made implants..

Has she done any implant work for you?

Ummmmm...didn't I start out with "While I have zero implant knowledge..."? Having said that, no, but just wanted to give a "shout-out" for her as others have done. We've had the usual (crowns, fillings, cleanings) and have always been satisfied with her work. Excellent dentist, very nice person.
