Eric Blair
Two (Alleged) Chapala police officers came to the house, fresh pressed uniforms, with a letter in English addressed to the attention of "...the foreign community." Looked very official. Basically it said welcome and they are having their annual posada Dec. 15 & 16 and any donations of toys, drinks, etc. will be appreciated and will help the local police officers and their families. So I gave the benefit of the doubt and gave a pesos donation. Just information.
GeorgiaPeach
Yes they are legit - we know them - they come here every year for a party donation.
SunFan
and the Police will be in the Walmart parking lot soliciting donations as well. Be generous, they are not paid well. SunFan
johanson
I guess I live in the wrong or right neighborhood, depending how you look at it. Been living in upper Ajijic for 21 years, and never has anyone from any government organization come to the gate/door and asking for a donation for a party.. Floradude
I also live in Upper Ajijic for 17 years full time and yes the police have come to my house all dressed up for a donation. I am very happy to give.
Taaffe
They wouldn't dare come to six corners to ask for money, they'd be laughed out of the barrio and told their cut from the meth dealers should cover their parties.
bmh
I live near 6th corner and I have never seen the police or other gevernment organization come for money... yes I guess they know better around here..
Tingting
It's a yearly thing and yes, we do give. As someone else has said, they're paid very little. I'd like to think good of them until proven otherwise. I know I sure as hell wouldn't want their job. If nothing else, there are plenty of local charities who can use all of the help you can give.

Sometimes encouraging positive behaviour and ignoring negative behaviour does wonders in bringing about change!
