lakeside7
A time to say goodbye to longtime resident Millicent Brandow, who with her late husband Bill came to Lakeside in 1985. One of the first people she met was Enid McDonald (A Canadian Flying Pioneer). Enid introduced Millie and Bill to the Lakeside “entertainment circle” and Millicent, an accomplished Soprano singer was in her element. She and Mac Morrison and other friends performed many shows for charity/fund raisers etc. In addition Millicent was the Choir Director at St Andrew’s Church, Riberas, which she and husband Bill were founder members. It was whilst she was Choir Director that Millicent began the new singing group Los Cantantes . Sadly about 5 years ago Millicent was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration. She is now legal blind and her family have decided to expatriate her back to Canada where she can receive additional care and attention. If you wish to share any memories with her before she leaves on the 20th November please call her at Happiness Nursing Home, 766-3594
thevalerieleigh
Although I have only met this magnificent lady a couple of times, I have been delighted by her beautiful Soprano voice. I remember seeing and listening to her in several BRAVO! Theatre performances a few years ago. I'm so sorry to read her health is deteriorating but understand that family would like her nearby. Sending Millicent off with great wishes for safe travel and the opportunity to enjoy time with her family in Canada. She and her talent will be missed, lakeside. Cheers! I remember when she/they came here , and yes I met her through Enid McDonald That was when the Anglicans shared, the Little Chapel by the Lake with their congregation, in the same facility on the Carretera in Chula Vista. Millicent sang in both group´s choirs, 9AM and 11 AM on Sundays. Remember it well, and thought, now there´s a lady who loves to sing. ComputerGuy
Thanks for the information. I will call her. I have worked with Millie for many years. It has been tough to see her lose her eyesight. She counted on it for so many things. And she has never given up, getting ZoomText for her computer, getting large-screen electronic readers, and anything else she could think of. slainte39
Mentioning Enid McDonald, another wonderful lady, brings back so many memories of that dear, dear lady that was so beloved by everyone and someone I was very, very close to. She was the first licensed female pilot in the Province of Alberta (1932) and the third in all of Canada. Her grandfather, John Norquay, was Premier of Manitoba and Mt. Norquay, in Alberta, was named after him. One her grandparents was the first European baby born in the Province. She built the first home in Chula Vista in the 1950´s and was a driving force behind the auditorium in Ajijic and the golf club in Vista del Lago. She regularly played golf with the President of Mexico. One of her many memorable accounts of life was when Admiral Perry, the famous Polar explorer, spent several days at their home in Canada when she was a little girl, as he was a close friend of her father's. She took Millicent under her wing like she did for so many of us, and I´m sure Millicent, like me, at our advanced ages, has the same fond memories of her as I do. Bon Voyage, Millicent!
